Introducing Buggsy my 110 TD5
Ok well turns out this is my 3rd Defender (well ones a 90 not strictly a Defender) anyhoo.....

This is Buggsy:

She’s a 2002 td5 ex electric board, with a possible job change in the not to distant future I decided I need a new work truck so will now spend time sorting this out into a good workshop truck in between fixing Maggie.

Purchased on eBay with a random bid completely unseen and a known Non-runner I collected her prior to xmas but had no time to do anything with her until today, I Knew the AS10 modual was not functional so purchased a set of vehicle ecu and AS10. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

So fitted Both Ecu and AS10 she cranked but didn’t fire, no faults on Nanocom and ecu not immobilised.

Ok so fuel pump wizzing away nicely, relays functioning and still not firing, read a few posts on here;

Fuel filter:

Yea needs a change me thinks,

Contents looks healthy Rolling with laughter

Checked the fuel coming from the new filter and all good again.

Air bleed valve:

I stripped and checked it over and seems ok, one post said you shouldn’t be able to blow through it and as I tighten the Union CRACK Censored Censored the housing has snapped where it mounts to the chassis, what a Censored design Land Rover now I need to buy a new one at over £100 Big Cry

Injector harness/oil ingress:

Small amount of oil on injector to harness connection, cleaned off and none found at ecu end.

New earth for Ecu:

Made no difference.

Fuel pressure regulator:

Ok so the fuel system image I found one here shows that the pipe work was fitted incorrectly mine ran from the top of the two unions to the cooler and the images show the chassis pipe from pump should go to there so switch those around and fingers crossed it will work, check I have fuel on the return line and all is good.

Still not firing, I have no faults on Nanocom, fuel now good (unless I read diagram wrong), cranks strong doesn’t appear to be anything sluggish with starter, yellow relays operate, crash kill switch under bonnet correctly set, known good ecu and AS10 (paired)...... so please say I have forgotten something very simple it does appear to want to start following the bleeding procedure but never fires up. Oh yes loads of fuel in the tank.

I haven’t tried bump starting as it was a little hard on my own Laughing

As I was not successful in getting her running I thought I would add a few bits I have already laying around:

Started with a simple one the tail lights are a little faded so swapped them over for some nice ones:

Dash next as I have an Egr delete kit with an outlet for a boost gauge, Radio was hanging out so thought I’d have a little look why it didn’t work, once it was out I found this:

One day I will have a vehicle without bodged and dodgy electrics Banging Head

Onto fitting the gauge I placed it in the hole for the clock as a boost gauge is more fun than a clock, also tightened up the speedo as it was 90 degrees out and very loose. (Forgot pics so will take some tomorrow).

EGR delete:

Removed the old one easily, put fingers inside the inlet manifold and some thick sludge was covering it, ok inlet manifold off, hmm two bolts missing from fuel cooler bracket, another two missing from the manifold, dipstick tube bolt packed out with washers rather than being cut down......... hmmmm few bodge jobs to overcome. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Cheers, I am hoping not but I got it for a steal price much below what a basic hard top goes for, just saving for a house means shoe string budget and upgrades over time not all at once Big Cry 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Very interesting lower switch panel indeed... really does look like it belongs there. What could this be from?

The vehicle is a special vehicle build so I assume it was fitted by them. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html
