Rear crossmember paint ??
My rear cross member needs a fresh coat of paint , do I use a zinc 182 primer then buzz weld it? Or waxoyl or dintrol ? I’m looking for long term protection.

Anyone able to recommend the best way to protect ?

Many thanks Alex

Inside I spray with acf50 outside was etch primed where needed and then several coats of black smoothrite. Still good after 3 or 4 winters. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Dinitrol but not on visible areas
I would avoid dinitrol. I covered by chassis from new with dinitrol and sprayed the outside of the rear cross member also. Whilst it provides excellent protection, it scuffs quite bad and looks shoddy after a while. Use on the inside fine, use something else on the visible parts.

Keying of the original fading paint using green scotch pad then spray up using POR 15 chassis black aerosol. then I give it a ACF50 spray every so often. The inside has been Dynaxed thoroughly

I used buzzweld CIO. Good stuff, applies well, has a nice finish and hasn’t yet started to fade. This is now 6-8 months down the line

Well buzzweld is 99% Corroless paint anyway the marketing jargon and product names are too close to say they are not. It's just fancy marketing.

Browse through the Corroless website and their product page you can get the jist of how good it is.

Now arc rite sell this stuff in small amounts so some Google fu and Boom Corroless all in one chassis paint

Thanks for you all your replies. I’m going to use the buzzweld I have and do it again in the spring. ACF 50 ? What are the results and where can it be used. Is it like dinitrol or paint ?

ACF 50 is a corrosion inhibitor spray and lubricant, like an expensive WD40 ! Works well in enclosed areas as it has a low viscosity and will run in to corners well would not work so well in exposed areas as it would get washed off. I usually buy it from amazon in aerosol cans but can be bought in larger quantities. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Excellent I have ordered some for the Bulkhead. Last what is the best thing so spray on the inside of the wheel arches? The tub basically.

I’ve never really applied anything to the tub itself as it’s alloy but it is worth getting something in to the steel floor reinforcing struts under the rear floor to protect them.
If I was to do the rear arches would probably go with a good quality stone chip type coating as this would protect from abrasion and would have a sound deadening effect too. I think dinitrol do this type of coating. 2005 Td5 90 XS

Rubbed mine down to bright steel, then sprayed with a couple of coats of Zinc 182, then just sprayed it with Upol Satin black. Dinitrol the bits you can't see.

Still looks as good as new 18 months later.
