To be honest I think the best upgrade you can do to the gearbox is an improved cooler. The standard one is pretty pants. Time scale is the main thing. I aim to have it on the road for my birthday in March and I can't be waiting for the gearbox to be rebuilt. Especially as I can do it myself 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I have seen a couple of Td5 conversions. It makes sense as in many ways it's similar to a Td5 disco. There is certainly room. I'll probably make the second one into a Td5 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

how easy is it to do a conversion in one of these then? I can see it not been a simple plug in play. If I was going to tackle an engine conversion again, id be wanting to see one in real life and wanting a good sorce of info, I had a bad experience with my last engine conversion sadly. Td5 is easy really. Just need engine loom, ECU, 10AS and fuel pump. If going simpler than that you can fiddle the ECU to not look for the alarm module but you may as well activate the alarm and have the security.
Engine mounts would need welding but really pretty simple 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton Last edited by grafty99 on 30th Jan 2018 10:20pm. You could even put a Td5 speed transducer in the transfer box and then a speedohealer to double the output to the ECU and then have factory cruise control 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

The engine loom is Td5 specific. It is basically all of the sensors and injectors to ecu. Essentially everything from the red plug on a Td5 ECU 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

when I did my engine conversion grafty, I had to send away the vvc engine loom off to be converted over so it could plug into the metro main loom, Laugh is a lot of people were tight lipped on what wires to move over etc, a couple of years later, I was talking to a MG metro cup driver at the time who had done the same conversion, and he said it was only 6 wires to swop around! He said if Id known you were going to do yours, id have told you what wires to move over, save you the 70 quid!
Is it the same for these with the range rover/ defender looms? Or is the RRCs the same loom as the disco? Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back Success is 90% Inspiration and 4 minutes Preparation # you can make it! |

The looms are totally different. However all you need is the engine loom to ECU then supply the engine and ECU with the correct power and ground. This would be independent of the main vehicle loom 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

sounds more easier, than the vvc conversion I did depending on what year the metro was, you had to have the loom converted to such. Which to me is still questionable to this day. Which was down to the alarm system, which was known as the 5AS ( 10 AS to defender lads)
you know what the most easiest thing would be, is to wire in the full works from the donor car, which is what some of the mg metro cup lads did, ( they ran the rover 25 engines in with the latest ecu system) To me id just replace the full loom for a disco TD5 loom into a range rover classic. but I don't know about land/ range rover systems. Small update on the range rover. The autobox is now fitted. Just waiting for someone to become available to help me manoeuvre the transfer box into place
