The replacement valley gasket and sump sealer have arrived this morning. Hopefully I will get them fitted this weekend and get the engine in place

unfortunately a mate of mine has just acquired a Td5 disco which he is breaking and has offered me the engine

What are everyone's thoughts on a Td5 RRC? Would mean more usable day to day (read not cripplngly thirsty

) and also parts commonality with my defender (at the moment)

Cons are obviously no V8 loveliness

Today has mostly involved dishwashing (more on that in a moment). The story starts with the geabox. 8 years of sitting still (and also 5L of highly tuned V8 going through it) had taken its toll on the Range Rovers original gearbox. This meant that I needed to fit the autobox out of the donor car as it only had a 200tdi going through it so was in much better shape.

The problem, however, is that it had an LT230 transfer box on it and I wanted the chain driven original as it has viscous limited slip centre diff. This required a change of output shaft and rear end housing on the gearbox. Unfortunately to swap the output shaft over required a full strip down - of both gearboxes

So I decided that as I was going to be stripping the boxes down anyway I may as well give the one I was going to use a bit of a tidy up. To get the gearset out of the casing the valve body and flow restrictor rubbers needed removal. So after about an hour I ended up with this:

This left me with a surprisingly light outer casing:

This is where the dishwasher comes into place, a couple of tablets on a 95°C wash yielded this:

Anyway I can't test it until I've put the RR mostly back together but fingers crossed!
