Help Headlight issue - Not Switch , poss relay
Hi, I have a 2013 110, last night I lost dipped and main beam. Having read all the blogs Ive done the following, checked bulbs and fuses, changed the main headlamp switch, Ive also swapped the relay in the underseat fuse box of the heated window relay (as suggested on a post). All to no avail. Im assuming there is another relay (not the pink one on the older models). Im guessing it the centre top relay in the fusebox below the steering wheel - does this sound right I cant find anything to confirm it? If so a part number would be great?

Thanks

Tony

Hi Norman, Ive replace the switch (and tested the voltage all good), on mine the horn and main lights are on separate switches. So I still have no idea???

I had the exact same problem last night, after a bit of head scratching I found that it was the main Beam/indicator/horn switch, if you have the plastic off around the switches, look at the switch you will see the two contacts on the top that pull back for flash and forward to go on to main beam, below them is another contact if you get a small screwdriver and press the contacts together your lights should come on, hth, Harry NO ROAD..........EXCEPT FOR LANDROVER

Thanks Harry, shorting the contacts gives full beam - that's back working after swapping a relay, however, still no dipped beam?

It’s the contacts below the main Beam ones, that should give you dip, Harry NO ROAD..........EXCEPT FOR LANDROVER

I ran a bypass across the blue and the blue and red wire just to ensure I’d made the connection, still no joy.

Have you tested for Earth continuity and for voltage at the H4 headlights connectors?

You will need to be doing some testing with a Multimeter to narrow down the culprit that is causing the issue.

Have you checked the fuse has not been blown? ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Fuses all good, no voltage at the headlight connectors, however have just noticed a high pitch buzz underneath the bonnet near the bulk head on the passenger side, however I can’t locate it. It may have always been their and I’m going paronoid

Does yours have the dim-dip Relay under the steering wheel fuse box area? Typically pink?
If your dim dip resistor as standard or un-plugged?
(You can try disconnecting and see what happens if anything, you can always reconnect.)

I think there maybe a fuse shared with the horn also, have you checked that?
There are fuses underseat but also fuses under the steering wheel access flap.

Do you have any accessory Relays added anywhere, even for main beam?
I had a lot of issues with a faulty aux spotlight Relay that I had as trigger feed on main beam.

Remove the under dash dim - dip Relay and replace it, also try bridging. This can also knock out dipped if faulty.

As main is working, it's not the stalk, not the master switch you've fitted or lets presume so.
Earth at headlights appears to work with main beam, I assume on flash and latched with main beam dash light on.
So I'm tending to think possibly dim dip Relay. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️

Really appreciate the help, mine doesn’t have the dim relay (later model with headlamp adjuster on the dash). I’ve checked all light related fuses in both fuse boxes, but hadn’t checked the horn fuse, I will give that a go in the morning, I now seem to have lost mainbeam (locked) but flash still works.

Near the bulk head on the passenger side (wing wiring loom gray plug and socket) between wing top and the heater fan housing Question

earth header on the bulk head behind coolant tank common earth point for head lights, side light and so on
