Oil Leak - Front Axle Drain Plug

Quick One:

Did an oil change recently and while at it fitted new magnetic drain plugs.
Now i get a very slight leak; oil spot on the drive over a period of a couple of days. (it didn't leak before - and was still full of oil - so i know it was a good seal before).

Question is; do i just keep tightening it up; (there is still movement) and its not excessively tight; and try and get the tapper to seal - I just don't want to strip or damage anything by over tightening - and could just being a wuss!

Or do i wind it out a few threads and apply some hylomar and hope thats enough to stop it.; but it will weep some oil in the process and maynot help the sealant. (if so which one; blue or red?

Any advise welcomed - and it really is a minor leak... they all do - but mine has been good until now.

Quick internet search seems to indicate 44ft.lb torque on front diff drain and filler plugs.

Will get the torque wrench out tomorrow and see if i am a wuss!
its takes a couple of days of waiting to see if its sorted... plus a brick and some cardboard.

Hmm I think I have the same issue after switching to a magnetic drain plug earlier in the year. I'm confident I went past 44 ft-lb which isn't a lot when doing it up. I've just been turning a blind eye to it - its a lot less than the leak coming from the crank shaft seal anyway... 2005 Td5 90 XS

I would try some PTFE tape on the threads. Make sure you wrap it around the threads in an anti clockwise direction (as seen from the drive end of the plug). Defender 90XS SW

well it turns out i'm a complete wuss with regards to judging how tight things are I'd tightend up a little more and the leak changed from a drop on the drive to a droplet on the plug but after 2 days but no drip.

So i got the torque wrench out and turned both front a back a shed load more before hitting the set point.
(i did put a bit of hylomar on the threads though!)

Suspect its sorted - but will keep my eye on it.
Such a small leak it took days to run down the axle before it then drops onto the drive.

I only used the torque wrench for important stuff like suspention parts and cylinder head bolts; looks like i'm be torqing everything from now on

just goes to show.
