On four wheels….nearly
Its a bit of a snowball from here, and anybody who’s done will tell you that its hugely satisfying getting the thing sitting on its wheels when starting from a box of bits! All this went pretty fast and I didnt have tons of photos for some parts of the build up. The next step was to build up the stub axles on the rear, and the swivels and housing at the front ready for final assembly of bearings and fittings of wheels etc. Exciting times! So, onto the diff. Started with the front diff which I got a casing from the garage I used and then had them fit the Ashcroft ATB to this diff housing and ring gear. I then refurbed and painted the diff case before fitting. My paint combo of choice on steel is dinitrol converts rc900 rust converting primer, and then trustbuster expoxy mastic 1-2-1 in black 2 pack paint. Stub axles fitted, and bagged up to stop crap getting on the surfaces before fitting the hubs. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Front end time. Cant find any pics of the buildup of the swivel balls and swivel housings. I may have been too greasy to get the camera. Basically similar to before, I completely refurbed the housings and painted them. New swivel balls and retainers and new OEM bolts etc etc. Some cheapo CV’s (which I may live to regret but hey ho) and new stub axles, callipers and discs This is very shiny! Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge New fuel tank! mine was holed by someone who decided it would be a good idea to drill the floor! then they filled the hole! after 1/2 tank it started to leak! Tank has been seam sealed around the middle, then painted with epoxy 1-2-1 and finally had dinitrol applied around the seams where they always tend to let go. Click image to enlarge |

No, it took a long time to find an old 911 in original condition that didn't a rebuild but I know quite a few folks who have gone down the rebuild route and to do it properly you need very deep pockets |

did wonder about that, but went with the side one because my tub has the filler at the front. Also, I wasnt sure how the efi pump works on a rear mount tank. On the side mount you use a rr classic pump which fits the older tdi tank.

Brake lines and breathers time!
I bought the gwyn lewis breather kit for this build. Really nice kit including new breather fittings for the axles which you have to tap out. Id also decided to pretty do the whole of the braking with stainless hose rather than copper. I didnt have the copper pipe tools, and it wasn’t big money to just use stainless braided hose instead ordered to size from Llama 4x4 in shropshire! << that guy can talk, dont call unless you have an hour! dont rally have much more info apart from you can order brake lines of any length with different angle ends and they arent crazy expensive. I forget where I got the guys name from, but hes the same guy who runs the donnington 4x4 show each year. To be fair I think you can source these things from anywhere, the trick is knowing what you want!
