I'm assuming I can do it the same way as I did on my TD5. I'll try and explain. From the back of the mirror, through a grommet, the cable went into a hole I drilled in the rear of the mirror hinge (the bit bolted to the door), then out of a hole drilled in the door skin on the inside. Then with enough slack in the cable when the door is opened and closed, it just tucked behind the dash trim with a cable clip to tidy things up a bit. I have to say that I replaced the oval cable supplied with the kit with some nice round stuff so that it would fit snuggly in the holes (de-burred and painted of course) and grommets. A small hole and small cable tie kept the cable secured to the mirror arm and from flapping about at warp speeds. They worked a treat, almost posh for a Defender. I have some photos somewhere, but don't have a clue how to get them on here. Bosun. |

You will struggle on power sources and it really depends on how much power you need.
Why not position in either the battery or fuse box, run a a trigger cable to the switch (which is an earth switch anyway) and wire the mirrors into that location Posting pictures is easy - use the gallery function on this forum, upload them and then it does the link for you You can get the mirrors from Bearmach and most places. I have to say ive never seen a point when ive needed them - even on the disco and freelander Mike |

The kit I have came from Scorpion. mse, The power consumptiom is only a few watts, I'll check tonight. I wondered if I could get away without a relay. |

Im surprised its only a few watts - but i dont disbelieve you. I would put a relay in regardless (maybe a micro one) as there is nothing behind the dash i would mess with to run power from. Pluss its good to protect the original wiring which is what you want to. (only good sources 12v Socket, Clock...there is one more i cant recall) Mike |

The mirror elements are rated at 17watts each (might be a little more than a few I guess), just under 3 amps for the pair. That's why I thought I might get away without a relay. Bench testing them with the YUG 000470LNF heated rear window switch doesn't show any signs of over heating to the switch. Taking a feed from the HRW relay sounds like a good idea, assuming it can handle the extra load. Anyone know which relay and where? |

Thank's Bosun, i'll look at scorpion.
I'll have to fit a relay with a switch or a timer because i don't have a heated screens. I'm just going to use one of the spare fuses with new wiring. When i wipe the mirrors clean, they mist up again. I have alot of early morning reversing to do and the 130 isn't as easy to judge as the other varients. 130 crew cab 98 V8 Disco |
