South Africa 2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 SW Tamar Blue
Typical: Friday afternoon at 4.30......
Hi All
I got an engine malfunction light late this afternoon. No funny noises, performance drop, temperature increase or limp mode. Just a light.
I looked at some other threads about restarting a number of cycles to clear the fault, as well as the distinct possibility of it being the MAF or EGR.
What's the best cheap diagnostic tool that's available out there? The Foxwell nt204 looks pretty good at less than 50 GBP.
Any recommendations?

If I don't sort it out over the weekend, I will go off to the local indie LR garage on Monday...
Regards

Hello Farmer58za

I have the ScanGaugeII and really like it...bought to answer a similar situation to yours
(maybe even the same... Question )

My Fault Code...the familiar (now I understand it better...) P1103 Resets after around 6 Engine Run Cycles
(Easy to remove MAF Sensor and Clean)

I bought one of these a while ago for my puma, very basic but reads faults and clears them for £15 inc p&p. a bargain.

It's got me going a couple of times before the BAS tool and remap.

Thumbs Up Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right.

^^^^ I had a similar unit to this a while ago also with no problem.
Dealers charge around £40 just to plug in much less anything out.

Possibly £10 per button press too maybe. Whistle Rolling with laughter $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

That sounds a whole lot better that the standard Landrover response: "That'll be (add large sum here) + VAT"
Cool

First time it happened I took mine to garage..

Then bought an ultra gauge

Great bit of kit reset it myself, use it for engine temp, revs, speed many other gauges.

Only around £60 and small enough to fit in that gap between speedo and rev counter

I parked the Landy till this afternoon. Started it up and no warning light... Confused Maybe 5 or 6 re-start cycles from first seeing it. That's good news in the short term. I will get some OBD scanner device for the future.
Thanks for all of your input.
