A little bit of unleaded in a 2.2 puma tank.
So.. there I was at the garage, idly filling up the tank. A little distracted by something, I suddenly realised I was putting unleaded in the tank instead of Diesel. About 7.27 Litres to be exact.

A few thoughts crossed my mind just then, but the decision I made was to holster the unleaded pump and fill up with Diesel to a full tank, including the pipe. So I've got a full tank of Diesel with about 7 litres of unleaded, that must be about 8-9% I guess.

I'd heard that people often put a drop of unleaded in the tank at MOT time if the emissions are bad, as it makes for a cleaner burn, so I decided that I'd be ok. Anyway, I gingerly started the engine (all of so far) and drove the 6 miles home. As far as I can tell everything seems to be ok. A little perkier if anything, certainly smoother, but I'd expect that.

The question is, will I be ok to run the engine with the 8ish% unleaded mix? I hope so

Wondering what the collective wisdom is here.

I can't see that amount would cause an issue?
If it was me, I would run it down to 3/4 full then fill up with diesel again, and then keep topping it up. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

My Mrs put £20 in an empty disco4. I put another £60 on top and we didn't experience any issues. No dpf though

I might risk it in my old 200TDi but not in a 2.2 with a high pressure fuel system.

Yeah it was the DPF I was worried about, tbh.

Fill the tank right up with diesel now and you'll lesten any effect of any issue.

That should be fine. âï¸âï¸God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 âï¸âï¸

All sounds encouraging, thanks chaos.

If someting does go bang, i'll let you know. Apart from the usual suck, squeeze, bang, blow.

Very Happy

Cold countries run petrol in diesel to stop waxing. Up to 50%.

Am I the only driver on here who has never filled up with the wrong fuel?

Just need to be extra careful next time I fill up - pride comes before a fall! Big Cry

No, I have never managed to do it, but S.H.M.B.O. did it to both the Disco which was petrol and her 90 which was diesel within 30 minutes of each other. The recovery driver and the Indy tried so hard to keep their faces straight in front of her. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.
