Mariner's 200Tdi 90

Hi there,

I thought I'd introduce my Defender.

I bought this one last year with 104000 on the clock and a dodgy bulkhead and slipping clutch. The second to last owner converted her from a hard top to pick up, had her sprayed and used her as his wedding car.

The guy I bought her from had her for a year but she didn't suit his needs.

I had a local independent LR mechanic replace the clutch and timing belt. While she was there one job ran into another, as often happens, so she got a used injector pump, front and rear crank seals, front springs, front outriggers, footwells, suspension bushes, battery box, sills, rear silencer and some spots welded on the chassis.

She passed the MOT equivalent and I used her for the summer. The replacement of the bulkhead was going to be a project for the winter. A repaired bulkhead came up for sale last month and I went to Belfast to collect it. It had been galvanised, etch primed and sprayed. I thought it would be better to have a bulkhead to hand not knowing how much work would be required on the existing one.

So last night I made a start and got the doors, roof and screen off. Going to tackle the dash next.

Interesting...it's got a much earlier radiator grill panel with the hole for a bonnet lock, which made me wonder.

I suspect that the top of my bulkhead is in a similar condition and I'm going to get it booked in for repair after Christmas Rolling Eyes Darren

Another bit done this evening but spent ages looking for the right Allen key. Think I'll have to get more organised.

I got the vents off and then hit problems with the passenger side wiper splined fitting seized on the spindle so couldn't remove the wiper motor etc and consequently could not remove the dash backing panel.

I jury rigged a reservoir the keep the spindle soaked in WD40 for the next couple of days while I'm in work. A cut down water bottle and the finger from a nitrile glove as a seal around spindle. It seems to be holding a level for now anyway.

Hi Profyaffle,

Yes I am keeping the colour scheme as that is what people comment on most when I'm out and about.

I have the hard top roof and side panels but I think I'll leave it as is for now.
I have a set of Goodyear MTRs that may go on if I could decide whether to go for green or limestone or white Wolfs or Heritage look Freestyles. But all that is for another day.
