I've got a stage 2 tune on my 110 and saw a 4-5mpg jump after the tune, taking it to 28-29mpg.

Alan - in light of 110ross's experience, can I ask what MPG you getting at the mo?
I've a standard Td5 engine and TB on my 110 and I'm getting 28-29 mpg consistently out of her. I have additional weight of expedition rack, bit of chequer plating and running AT's so perhaps that knocks it by 1 mpg'ish ?? @110ross - Does the disco tb adversely affect the fuel economy ? My gut feel was that this should help rather than hinder ? I've been looking at the idea of an ecu remap of some description too but I have a feeling that any saving in economy might be offset by my slightly heavier right foot Jon - 110 td5 [sold]. This is very interesting, as I am thinking of a summer trip to the south from up here in wet west Scotland, to get the waxoil stuff done & a remap, either at Alive (from whom I already have the ECU kit), or BAS.
I get about 25mpg on average, but then my driving is either up & down country lanes, or the occasional 30 mile blast on the motorway. I am just looking to get to a set up that means that up hill on a motorway does not result in me going from 70 - 55 with my foot flat on the floor! Just a wee bit more "ooommmpphhh" Things have improved since i gave it the Forte treatment, and am currently using Millers Diesel Power Eco Max, but cannot really see any difference - the Fote was immediate & lasting. Have tried the 2 stroke method and it seems to work better than the Millers. Maybe if the BAS or Alive boys could point us all in the right direction.... I was going to do the remap by post thing, but actually sending my car's brain via Royal Mail gives me a cold sweat - would rather do the 600mile round trip with it attached to the car. Hi Party Monkey.
Originally I was running a standard Defender t/box, standard engine map and 7.50 Avon tyres, and on the usual shorter journeys I make I was seeing around 25mpg. The switch to the disco t/box didn't show any improvement in mpg, though I also fitted an expedition roof rack around the same time. Adding the Alive stage 2 tune (with a torque biased remap) gave an immediate improvement in mpg and noise. It also made pulling the caravan easier. I've just switched to the new Michelin Latitude Cross tyres but not had chance to check the mpg yet - but judging by the sound and the way it rolls alot smoother I'm expecting a slight improvement in mpg again. The quick answer is that I didn't see an improvement in mpg with the change to the t/box - that only came when the stage 2 tune was done. Ross. |

Edit.... @daviec1 - I too have recently used a shot of Forte and it equally made a significiant improvement in the uptake. The 2 stroke every 2 out of 3 fill ups seems to have just made her a little quieter. Neither appear to have had any impact, good or bad, on the mpg but then I wasn't really expecting them to. my td5 90 (T plate) did avg 27mpg over its first 23k miles.
i had a replacement ECU - JE Eng Stage 1 fitted at 23k miles. the evu was non flashable. Mpg improved to 28 avg upto 29k miles (engine was bedding in too) at 29k miles a GKN overdrive was added giving increase to 29/30mpg @ 76k miles a straight through mid pipe was fitted - little difference in mpg but better response/low pickup - perceived or other wise. sold it at 105k miles, with avg still at 30mpg best being 36mpg on a run worst 24mpg towing. Well I'm averaging around 27mpg and that's with safari snorkel fitted and a Hannibal rack. I was thinking about the remap purely from an extra economy point of view. Reading this I'm not sure the expense would be worth it for an extra couple of mpg. Anyway.........don't have to worry about fuel costs anymore....1p off a litre......sorted!!! Life is not a rehearsal!

I went to fill up tonight at 6.25pm and to my amazement, the garage had actually passed on the 1ppl decrease. I was even more amazed to calculate that my latest mpg was 29.5 - a PB for 'Bogoff' I was very pro remap at the outset of ownership, but I have to say, the improvements in engine pickup as a consequence of the forte and possibly the two-stroke have got me re-considering if my daily requirements really warrant it. My typical journeys are fairly quiet B roads and country lanes, where I probably average 50mph and then some crawling around the Oxford ring road. A more demanding daily drive I'm sure would justify the money on a remap but on reflection, I kind of like the fact that the Td5 engine is fairly 'de-tuned' in its standard state.... which kind of gives me some (probably misplaced) comfort that the components are well within their stress tolerances and should, in the long run be more reliable. The only thing I can add, is, DRIVE a Td5 that has had a remap.
It such a different vehicle, MUCH MUCH better for ALL journeys, awsome off road, and allows you to drive it in a much smoother way on road. The price of a remap is not that much for what you are getting. Even my wife asked, "why don't Land Rover make them like this" And fuel improved on nun runs (when driving like a nun) improved, but for me when the needle drops I fill it up. Simples Andy |

my 90's mapped. It allows the turbo to bosst a little earlier and stronger. For me this means less gear changes, not a real problem as i'm going auto!
It also has alot more oppmph when i need it. most of the time i potter around but if i'm towing or in a rush it helps personally i have everything remapped! the wifes D2 has had a IRB stage 1+ boost done and goes very well. Even my van has had a tune NEVER had a turbo go, or an engine blow or failed any MOT's etc |
