Spent this weekend learning about spraying with a gun rather than a can
Finished cleaning up the other two with the angle grinder: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge The most horrible tool in the world to use, literally got grit everywhere! Click image to enlarge Nothing else does the job quite as well though! Click image to enlarge Etch primer, the paint shop recommended this with steel wheels as it bites into any rust that I may have missed Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge High-build in the rough areas with normal priper around the rest Click image to enlarge Changed my mind on the way to the paintshop and went for Alpine white in the end! Base coat, this went on poorly and I think its because I used a cheap paint gun, it's not a bad finish (no runs) but its slightly stippled, like raptor paint? Fine on a 90 but I think you'd be scratching your head if it was a Ferrari! Click image to enlarge Clear coat, again went on pretty badly, just drenched the wheels, no matter what setting I put it on. That said the clear only left one run on one wheel, it also takes a long time to cure, so I decided to leave it until next weekend to sand it down and put a second coat on. I think i'll buy a better paint gun this week, to see what the difference is, also a regulator and a moisture trap as there was allot of water coming up the gun to from the compressor (even though i'd emptied it). Im still happy with the results, as this is the first time Click image to enlarge I also finished painting the back out (forgot to take a photo), seat risers from Fat Cog and seatbelt bars from gcc130 arrived (thanks guys!). The rear door retainer with rubber seal came today as well. I've said this about five times already........ but hopefully i'll start putting it back together this weekend! 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

Starting to put the 90 back together now, so happy to see all the parts i've refurbished back on it!
NAS rear bumper and mudflaps on! Still need to do the tow electrics but I think this looks amazing, my dad most of this during the week. Click image to enlarge Rock sliders on! Still need to drill in the 6 bolt holes for the outriggers Click image to enlarge Fitting the new rear door seal, very happy with how this turned out, was dreading it not fitting Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Wacked some more waxoyl on the night before, so it could dry over night Click image to enlarge Fitted the steering guard Click image to enlarge Test fitted the front bumper... which fouled at the recovery points on the steering guard recovery points iroinically... also the bull bar mounting plate overlaps the winch area... Click image to enlarge angle grinder time.... Click image to enlarge I had to file the edges to tidy it up after my dad had cut it Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Drilled a new hole at the front of the mounting plates to replace the anchor holes we had to cut off Click image to enlarge Cut off the steering guard recovery points, also had to put spacers at the front and find new bolts as the top of the steering guard fouled on the bottom of the winch tray Click image to enlarge Drilled holes in the front bumper Click image to enlarge Bolted on the bull bar, should've painted the exposed metal here but I was moving too quickly at the time Click image to enlarge Mounted the bumper for the final time, put on the bumper bolt caps and touched up the bar metal, ready for raptor refresh next weekend Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I AM KNACKERED. 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |

looking great their kit! My bumper didn't really line up either compared to the original unit. its about a couple of mill out on one side. But I don't think these are really all that square. The rear bumper is the one I want for mine, but its something I have to work towards so I think that's going to be one of those jobs for next year sadly. I'm really happy with the final fit, getting there was a bit of a journey though!
Be careful with the NAS rear bumpers, there seems to be more than one type of rear cross member and the captive nuts in the bottom section are in different places! 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW 1956 Series 1 Hard-top 1958 Series 1 Soft-top |
