Okay so a bit of an update, tatted around the 90 this weekend and did a few jobs:
Took the passenger side door off, had to drill out one of the hinge bolts and destroy the door seized door lock/handle unfortunately so i'll be buying a new set shortly. Click image to enlarge Next I removed the rear lock, I forgot to get a photo of this but it looks like in a past life someone tried or did break into the back of the 90, probably why it's temperamental at times. The bulk of my time was spent removing the crappy steps/sliders, in the end I just cut the rear hangers off with a a mix of 1 part angle grinder, 1 part hacksaw and 1 part frustration. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I'm going to order some of these tomorrow to replace them but i've got to do allot of cleaning up under the chassis next weekend before I can fit them. http://www.rock-sliders.co.uk/landrover-de...iders.html |

I spoke to my dad and he reckons that they made those B-414s in the 1960s but doesn't know much more than that about them.
So bit of a crap weekend even if the weather was good, you'll see why if you keep reading. My dad took both sides of the lower panels off ready for me to start cleaning the bottom off, rust treating and putting the new rock sliders on: Click image to enlarge Removed the door hinges and wing mirror so I could freely work on the passenger side door with the knackered door lock/catch: Click image to enlarge This is the god aweful mess I found inside, do not scroll down if you're not a weetabix fan (the drivers side door is not much better): Click image to enlarge Now there are lots of options available to me but i'm probably going to rebuild the door slowly, as if I buy a new one i'll need to respray the whole car and if by some miracle I found some good ones in the same color then they'd need blowing in too. I decided to take some time away from the doors/locks while I considered the options and investigated the bulk head rust further, thankfully it was only surface rust, so my uncle chipped in and treated it for me while I worked on the wheels. Click image to enlarge As mentioned I wanted to make this 90 more civilized and that means doing away with things like 12.5" wide tyres. So I found these in my dads endless reams of stuff, which are apparently period correct for my Tdi? Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Got the wire brush and some sandpaper on two of them, will try to prep the other two by close of play next weekend (I do have all the center caps): Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Shall I do them in white or silver? |
