Most parking sensors aren't designed to be mounted into metal. If you do they don't work very well at all! You can buy metal bumper specific ones or get ones with little brackets, then possibly rivnuts into the bottom of the NAS step to mount the brackets? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

In my NAS step, there were two plastic plugs, each filling a round hole. I drilled out the centre of the plug and the parking sensors fitted perfectly.
Only fitted two sensors, but they work perfectly. There's less need to the sensors towards the corners in a Defender as visibllity is so good, I've not reversed into anything since fitted... Edit - just lookd at the kit suggested above - that's exactly what I've done. I spent abot £20 thoigh. Didn't realise they were jack points - LR supplied a bottle jack. |

Park Assist set up taken off a Discovery 2 and fitted into a modified rear step .

I happily fitted parking sensors to my rear crossmember. I drilled 20mm holes and mounted the sensors straight in. I bought the set off ebay. I went for"learning" ones as I have a tow bar. Had no problems with them except they are a bit slow to activate V8 90...WIP

I'd go for a camera over sensors, find sensors don't actually help that much!

Got a camera ready to fit too! Decided on both as parking my dads RR with both is so simple and easy, 110s arnt the easiest things to park with the turning circle of a narrow boat n all!
I thought about using the jacking holes as I use a hi-lift or trolley jack anyway, never used the LR one... Though I lost the bloody bungs that go in the hole and not been able to find a new set. Which is why I thought about drilling out the mount for the jacking point and fitting the sensor in there! Def90 that looks very tidy! |

That looks fantastic, so many questions. What is the logo'ed cover over the large hole from? Never seen a folding step fitted to a NAS, any instruction on how it was done/ do you not have a tow bar? OK... just two for now. More... What is the bracket on the right hand side for? Where did all the little covers for the holes in the crossmember come from? |

I fitted 4 sensors into the NAS step on my old TD5 by drilling the tube and running the wires in it. I would not do it again. They looked OK (gaps round them filled with black silicone mastic) and worked OK most of the time. But they didn't work when the tube filled with rain which I never solved (I suspect that they all do this) so I ended up drilling drain holes. And the crap finish on the (genuine parts) NAS step deteriorated even faster where I had drilled it despite zinc primer and painting over. Cheers, Guy.
