You probably mean 285/75, not /85.
Top pic 255/85s on 0 offset Blindos. Second pic 285/75 on Boosts (33mm offset) with 30mm spacers. Be aware that 285s will make your vehicle filthy unless you do something to prevent it (mud comes in through the windows). Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

285/85x16 will probably foul the bodywork. I didn't know that that size was even manufactured.
255/85x16 is a good fit and avoids many of the disadvantages of 285/75x16. |

I love mine. They are amazing off road. Quite noisy on smooth tarmac though ! That is 255 85

You won't be buying BFG in that case, according to their UK website they don't make them! Your choices are as I said, for Mud Terrains at any rate, either 255/85 or 285/75. |

255/85R16 on Wolfs with 30mm spacers
Click image to enlarge Never noticed any difference day to day vs the previous 235/85R16, acceleration etc feels the same, except the speed now is spot on but the odo under measures. They are a little taller than 285/75R16, you can see that in person and height is what matters offroad. I'll probably go to 315/75R16 when I get through the current ones, to gain even a little more diameter. With standard bumpstops (don't compare lift with tyre clearance) they didn't rubbed with Wolfs and no spacers, rubbed a little on the rear arches with Wolfs and spacers and rub a lot with the current 16x8 -25 offset rims (they run so much better with these than with the Wolfs) and 25mm bumpstop spacers. I'm shaving the arches to correct that, little by little to keep them looking as standard as possible. Shame that most manufacturers seem to be moving to 75 ratios |

For me Wolfs are the best looking of them all, and the narrow 6,5" width holds the tyre really well on sand.
But.... - Being that narrow they don't allow for wider tyres, and I don't plan to run anything under 255 in the future. Also, even with the 255s you can really feel the tyre squirm quite badly. They feel much better on the 8J rim - Not enough offset. It's curious how, in my opinion, the LR community seems to be overly cautions when it comes to bigger offsets, it seems to be a cultural thing. Defender wheel bearings are quite big and strong. In the Japanese 4x4 world big negative offsets are so common, -25mm is called "LandCruiser offset". I've run lots of kms with Wolfs + spacers, resulting in a -10mm offset, 10.000 of those in the Sahara and know guys who did the same on much bigger offsets without problems. A wider track makes the vehicle much more stable and safe, gives more traction and protects the body on narrow woods tracks. - Wolfs are very heavy. Did you knew a 255/85R16 KM2 on a Wolf rim and spacer weight the same or even more than a 315/75R16 (35") on a generic "modular"? |
