Thanks Procta but I ended up dismantling and cleaning out the slave cylinder when I bled the clutch after putting the new engine in and I know that's fine.

Well master cylinders swapped, and it seems to have bled fine. Not started it up and put it in gear yet but it seems a LOT lighter than my old clutch so I'm very pleased
I will update when I've taken it out for a spin but currently working on another round of soundproofing with a full front mat replacement - I bought the LRI Solutions hardura rubber complete front rubber matting kit which seems pretty good. A decent match for the original mats/seat box covers that were fitted from factory - I didn't want carpets. The main benefit is it covers all the seat box, over the centre seat area meaning I can now put soundproofing around the cubby box to reduce the transmission whine. looking bob on that, I am wanting to fit carpets to mine with some rubber mats. Jus to add a bit of lux. With mine been used to go backwards and forwards to work.
Yeah defenders are not exactly square, I had some fun today fitting my dads floor panels back in, trying to get them to line up and screw them back in was a task. I spent a good hour on the passenger side. I am pleased that the clutch is sorted now, just watch for leaks that's all. Ooh, interesting to see you tackle that job. I've got the same Hardura kit in a box ready to fit when I get around to it.
How snug a fit is it? I'll be sound insulating the seat box too, but wasn't sure if there was enough slack to accommodate some 6mm foam as well as some 2mm Silentcoat? I would have thought you'd be OK. The material itself has no give or stretch in it but the LRI Solutions kit seems to be cut slightly big all the way round so I ended up having to really squeeze it up to the edges to prevent it forming ridges in the middle. But if you have that extra soundproofing in then that would take up some of that excess.

Sorted out my fan wiring today. Decided to go for a belt and braces, overkill approach and completely redid the wiring from the previous owner.
First bit was to pass the main chunky 12v feed through my auxiliary fuse box in the battery box. I then sorted out all the earth connections etc for the fan and relay. Click image to enlarge I then wired up an override switch under the dash binnacle which bypasses the thermostat so I can force the fan on at any point. I also wired up one of the unused warning lights on the dash to illuminate whenever the fan is on. This hopefully gives me complete control over the fan system. great stuff! I love a good wired in feature, When I had my rover metro vvc, I had a second fan wired for the ECU to kick on if the Rad switch system ever failed. laugh was the rad system never failed at all, but the ECU system always did, ( the ecu would throw the fan on) Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Little while since an update. Passed my test so naturally I've been clocking up the miles on her . Really is great fun to drive and so much cooler than any Golf or Fiesta.
Bought a couple of bits and bobs at Peterborough so have been fitting those. Firstly a pair of 'Tdi' decal/sticker things (not the plastic 3D version) to go on the wings in front of the door hinges. I also bought a full set of LED lights and the later style side repeaters. I knew I didn't want the clear bauble type ones, just fairly standard looking LED lights. The contacts in the rear brake light holders have been playing up recently so I decided to go for a full LED set and do away with dodgy bulbs and holders etc. Obviously being a Ninety, the 'plug and play' design became a bit more of a 'cut, strip, crimp, solder, plug and play'. Had to cut off the supplied connectors on the new LED lights and also cut off the old bulb holders and then put on some waterproof car electrical connectors I bought off Amazon. I was a bit concerned at how they would look but I'm really pleased with them. Much brighter and the front side lights are a whiter light which matches my crystal headlights better and also no unreliable filament bulbs! (Phone camera doesn't really do justice to the brightness and colour of the light). Definitely want to do it at some point though because the old ones are quite grotty - found a big clump of moss in the offside one the other day! Did the p-gasket today. Noticed a lot of water under where it's parked and then saw the tell-tale streak running down the block. nice one on passing your test! my dads has the same kit too and he had to do the same thing cut and solder.

The fan hasn't come on once since I rewired it so it will probably only be needed on longer journeys in the summer but it's nice to have the peace of mind knowing it's properly wired up and will come on if it's needed.

Definately worth having, defenders are ridiculously over cooled so you should have any problem 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon
