Bit more progress.... well I say progress kinda gone backwards..
So I decides to completely underseal the seatbox and make sure there is no exposed bare metal (LR just left the underside bare) Used Buzzwelds CIO again, totally horrible stuff to apply but nice and thick and dries to a tuff shell, so now I need to flat and repaint the seatbox top coat again ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Also decides to flat the tub to get a better finish so a few coats more of primer..but the primer has now covered some light scratches etc ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge Hope to get tub done soon and move onto wings and bonnet.. ![]() Click image to enlarge |

Oh! FFS I give up, not been a good couple of days...
So the paint wasn't going on well so I thinned it a bit, think it might have been the heat. Now this happens.... (bit too thin, too much paint..grrrrrrr) ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Looks alright from 10 feet away with one eye closed and the other squinting.. I give up ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge So flat back and try again... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

hope you've got plenty of that paint! Should come out fairly easy shouldn't it?
![]() I've got a '63 2a in bits too but currently stuck on deciding what to do with a rusty bulkhead and chassis at the moment ![]() |

only just found this thread! what a great build! What sealant did you use for the seatbox/ battery tray? Me and my dad did the same thing with his a couple of years ago. We clagged epoxy resin that you use to glue panels on, And then riveted it. Strong as an ox now and its water tight too!

Okay so erm last post was erm... Dec 2017
This is becoming a bit drawn out to say the least.... But we've had a bit of spurt so an update is due.. and the update is.... "it's taking longer than I thought it would" But Rusty wouldn't run right and I found a small amount of crud in the fuel lines and tank ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge I've also taken the engine to bits ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge and bought a blasting cabinet which is ace. (but compressor is a bit wimpy) ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge |

As above, good to hear your still at it!
They always take longer than you think, life has a habit of getting in the way ![]() Those little blasting cabinets are worth their weight in gold when your doing a strip down/rebuild ![]() Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Okay time for a proper Rusty update who has been coming along slowly, rather than the random photos.
Update 1 - “Off with his head” Not always Rusty getting TLC ![]() ![]() So onto the 52 year old Well, despite the painting which is just tarting up I’ve been having a splinter in the back of my brain about how Rusty ran, always smokey, rough and temperamental and just not right. I changed the plugs / did the tappets /dizzy / rebuilt the carb / checked the timing / redid the clearances but nothing fixed it so while painting was going swimmingly there’s no point putting pretty panels on a car that won’t run well… and seen as the wings were off I though now would be a good time to strip the engine ![]() So off with his head. (and what a coke-ed up and oily mess it was) ![]() ![]() So the head was sent off for a quick skim, new stem seals, the valve guides were worn so they were re-bored and the valves were re-cut. Came back looking much better ![]() ![]() And then I painted with some High heat black to tidy everything up ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() |
