Re evaluated gaskets and discovered the following:
Head gasket blowing on Cylinder Nr 4 Exhaust/ inlet manifold gasket, bottom missing on inlet to 1 & 2 and delaminted and cracked on the exhaust of 4 Checked the head................... cracks between valve seats on 3 of 4 cyclinders ![]() New head sourced so mainly "Not in the Defender today" as have been swapping all the studs, glow plugs, thermostat and bracketry over. Nr 3 Injector clamp stud wouldn't come out ....new one ordered. Nr 2 Injector clamp stud failed as I was torquing it down ... just as well they come as a set of four. Doesn't look like I'll be doing much in the Defender tomorrow either ![]() Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I'm hoping that it should be ok from now on.
Hopefully I will get the bit of power I've been missing back ![]() Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I'm always impressed with the mechanically able on this forum (I can sometimes fix broken humans, I suppose).

Well as an update:
I did get in the Defender today rather as well as under the bonnet. ![]() New Head Torqued in at 00:15 this morning (that was late enough) so at 9:00 ish it was time to start putting all the hoses and bits back together. Then adjust all the rockers and fit the rocker cover back on. Top up coolant and then fire her up for the first time in a few days. Hooray no chuffing noises of any variety (although I can now hear stuff rattling in my mud tunnel tray and cubby). Once happy that nothing was leaking it was time for a test drive (time to get in). ![]() I dont know if a new head needs running in as such so was a bit gentle on the old girl. That said she still pulled like a train far better than she has for months. Everything had obviously gone slowly and I hadn't realised just how much power I was down. ![]() Time for dinner and a celebratory cider or two (if the Mrs has left any while I have been tinkering). 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. On this Friday i had a box delivered which was great and the service was spot on, no grumbles there, cant fault it
![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge on opening it up, these 2 items were in there ![]() Click image to enlarge They are from Raptor Engineering, the switch plate is really well made and the quality is great, as the same goes to the fuse cover ![]() So this morning i made a start on putting it in, so i stripped all the rubber matting out to reveal the nice original green, ![]() Click image to enlarge then started measuring and making sure it was in the right place, as in the somewhat limited instructions, and ended up with this ![]() Click image to enlarge Now you can only have it on one side, the right hand side only, which gives you enough space behind to put sockets in, BUT on the left hand side there is not to much room to put the switches i want to as there is not enough space behind so a rethink is in order ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The next pic's show what i mean when it is one sided ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Now the other grumble is that of the fitting snugness where the panel meets the dash panel, not to good, could be better if they had a good look at the way the original fuse panel fits with it's curves, not like the metal panel curves ![]() Original fuse cover curve ![]() Click image to enlarge The metal panel cover curve ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge The metal panel fitted ![]() ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge On a better note the switch panel was a perfect fit as is spot on, old one with a crack ![]() Click image to enlarge New one fitted ![]() ![]() Click image to enlarge PLEASE dont get me wrong, but im am generally happy with the fuse metal panel and will sort something out and you can but different panels, but its not knowing is the hard part as the info on this was limited on the web site so i took the plunge to see what was what ![]() I will be ringing them tomorrow to give them some input and to see if they have had any other input on the fuse metal panel ![]() HAVE any other forum members fitted the metal fuse panel ? Picked up the 110 after it had been on holiday for 3 weeks with Listers Droitwich. Reynolds of Rushock did the repair to the bubbling paintwork under warranty and it looks like they have done a decent job, time will tell. Having missed 'Henry' for 3 weeks I took my boy to cricket in the morning and then we went off to the hill climb at Shelsley in the afternoon.
