So after an extremely successful weekend marching around in full ww1 uniform and webbing:
Click image to enlarge I am back to work and can continue the work on the front axle, today I started on the box of shinny bits from YRM and got all my galvanised parts t-washed and etch primed, whilst these sat drying I thought I would take some very shinny calipers and turn them a more subtle black: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I'm still working on the parts I have and parts I don't and the don't pile is getting bigger than the have one 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

A few more hours in the shop tonight, got some of my bits off the postie today:
First job was nice and easy, open some boxes and assemble my two new stub axles, a couple of sockets a plastic mallet and a 20t hydraulic press gave me this: Click image to enlarge Next box revieled some tracta seals so on with bolting on my shinny swivel housings and fitting the bearing races: Click image to enlarge To assist in fitting the swivel housing I utilised one of my favourite "modified" tools, used so much I think it's starting to wear out: Click image to enlarge So axle is starting to come together and I'm going through what bits I have to assemble and what have I forgotten to clean up and paint? The swivel housing pins ok que the grinder and some safety kit: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Right with that sorted I'm now only missing my dirt deflectors so I loosely bolt my housings together so I don't lose any bits: Click image to enlarge So it's starting to come together hopefully I can have a rolling chassis by next week 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

Update time, with work being busy project time has been limited but I have made a little progress:
First job was the fitting of new wheel studs to the hub, the old studs were badly damaged when the wheel fell whilst the wagon was going down the motorway: Click image to enlarge Next job was to fit my newly painted dirt deflectors and torque the stub axles to the swivel housings: Click image to enlarge Then it was onto fitting and torquing of the new brake disks ( after waiting for the bolts that I forgot to order) Click image to enlarge After all this I could inspect my diff and refit: Click image to enlarge With everything else nice and shinny it would have been rude not to paint it,Whilst that was drying I put in my new bearing races: Click image to enlarge Next job was to inspect my drive shafts prior to fitting: Click image to enlarge Then it was onto assembling the front axle as much as I can (just waiting for a spring balance so I can't test my shims) Click image to enlarge And the final job done was to turn my springs from black with white dots to black again: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge [/u] 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |

looking great there mash! do the vent discs fit behind any wheel? I have after market wheels on ( weller type) so I am unsure if they will fit. My old car I had, I had to space the wheel out by 5mm. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Cheers for the comments guys
The wheels should fit, hopefully I will have a fulling chassis soon and can test it, if not I will have to fight my way to the back of the shed for the old pair of Wolf rims I have lurking in there. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html 90 V8 - Maggie http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic42564.html 110 TD5 - Buggsy http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59029.html 52HG25 lightweight https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic72342.html D3 Hse - Fiona Capri 2l S - Anna Think I might have a problem............ |
