Added bonnet struts with home made brackets
So spent a couple hours yesterday adding universal struts to the bonnet. No more retro 1940s bonnet stay in the way all the time. Thought I'd share some details. Used existing fender bolts and only drilled into the bonnet to mount the ball posts. I picked up four of these struts at a surplus shop here in Ottawa for $10 (£7). Brackets are just bent aluminum 3/16 x2 inch bar.

Cheers

Is that some sort of sound deadening spray on the underside of your bonnet, and if so does it make a difference. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I see your original bonnet stay is still fitted. Will that be coming off or do you foresee circumstances where you will still use it?

I LINEX'd it.. very helpful to stop innocuous dents from forming on the bonnet. As for sound, no real noticeability there. The rubber seal on the bonnet edge did a LOT to reduce any noise from the engine bay. No leaking sound from around the edges, also the Td5 is pretty quiet compared to Tdi's and NA Diesels. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Nice!
Princess Auto struts?

I've just been doing the install of my Webasto under the hood on my 2003 and see you have one installed. Did you bother with the one way valve in the 18mm inlet hose for when the Webasto is not running?

Also, did you find any difference in heater airflow with the snow cowl installed during the winter?

Cheers

Om
No difference with the airflow and snow cowl in place has been noticed . I also have the Landreziegr digital fan speed control installed which I did notice increased full speed quite a bit. As for the Wabasto it came from the factory with it intsalled so cannot comment with great alacrity. Shocked

Princess Auto is a national store for farmers, hydraulic stuff, surplus and all kinds of great off road and recovery gear at great prices. Also tons of trailer and auto electric parts, welding fabrication and tools. Bow down
