You're right. Light is on. Sad

P1402 and P1409.

When I had a 300tdi Disco I removed egr and its ecu. Do You think it should be possible to convert puma engine into an engine without electronics?

I'm sorry for the stupid question.

Vinicio

Let the light ON and drive with a "clean" intake engine (like me, now my Defender have 61000km, 58000 with egr not connected......) Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition

Ciao Daniele,

what about fuel consumption with egr disconnected?

I have a 300 still and its always stuck in my mind.

If i have the 300 (or the old vCool in the garage i cant run them as they will choke me...but the 90 can run in the garage (loosely) fine...what does that say about pollutants of new vs old engines.

But the thing that sticks in my mind is this, surely if you do 30mpg in a 3.5v8 or a 5l v8 or a 1l 4c - then you are buring 1gallon per 30 miles? so how can that be worse (or better) regardless of the co2 content... Mike

[quote="mse life and death - you take the equipment required to resolve the problem...in an engine with electronics you just add some electronic bits, no different to throwing in a gasket etc.
[/quote]

Mmm, dunno about this - there's a huge difference between "throwing in a gasket" and "throwing in a few modern electronic components".

The complex electronics and engine management are the ONLY reasons why i wouldn't take my Defender up to Angola, Zambia, etc. Sure, easy countries like Botswana and Mozambique yes, but no further North than that.

I understand and appreciate the advantages when you're out in the sticks having fun, but for overlanding in Africa you'd be looking for trouble i reckon..., and (for me) i'd like to explore the possibility of removing some of the very advanced electronics - Africa's a great place to explore (in a super reliable vehicle).

That being said, the only failures I have ever had on my 2 previous Td5's and now in the Puma have been mechanical ones.... --

Jah, but now the MIL light is on permanently. If something is going wrong with your engine, how would you know? Neutral --

Actually, every month I check DTC status with my BAS Remap, but stay "on line" because Pete (Bellautoservices) is coming with a "definitive" solution w/o MIL on Discovery 5 td6 HSE Stornoway Gray Outback Engineering Limited Edition
