Today I got it finished, and I can just about change the fuses without taking out the 2nd battery. Now I no longer need to worry about radio's and worklights from draining the starter battery 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Fitted a Hannibal roof rack to my 110, which my dear friend Peter went and collected a couple of weeks ago and brought to my door on the Plain from Carmarthenshire on the top of his Patriot roofrack-equipped 110.
Click image to enlarge It's a little careworn but then none of us are getting any younger ... It's had the rail removed so a roof tent can be fitted, has holes in the deck, holes in the side rail for an awning, and it's obviously been out in the elements for several years but it's still strong and sound. Best £205 i've spent in years Click image to enlarge |

I know!
I was surprised it went for so little but I guess most people want something shiny and pristine, which this definitely is not. It was in the sticks too - luckily so is Peter. I was feeling all smug until Peter reminded me that his Patriot (in good condition) had cost him £250 including a roof tent ...... I prefer a) not spending a fortune and b) knowing that if I scratch it, there are roughly 8,000 other scratches on it already. The biggest difficulty was getting it on without scratching the newly painted roof, which we just about managed. It'll only be a matter of time until I drop a ratchet strap onto the roof anyway but for now it's pristine. |

SVX went to dealer for a day yesterday. They had three jobs to do, but in the end did four...
1. Scheduled 6 month intermediate engine oil and filter change (irrespective of mileage). Used Castrol EDGE C1 Professional 5W-30 which believe is the standard oil for the Puma 2.2, but can also be used in our Puma 2.4. 2. Full greasing job of the propshafts and anything else that is to be greased, something which I also ask them to do every 6 months. 3. Replace one of the cables for the rear left door's central locking which had stopped working. That is like a "service item" every 3 or 4 years or so. Actually on this same door, they replaced a broken cable still in Jan this year, but just replaced the one of the two that was broken. Now the second one on that same door broke. Next time (guess in a few years time again , I will ask them to replace both cables) 4. Then the not scheduled job - dealer found a slight leak from the bottom plate of the transfer box (we call that flat plate the "carter" here, the flat plate on the transfer box which is fixed with 10 bolts). They drained the transfer box, removed the plate, cleaned off all old sealant which was the cause of the leak, cleaned all surfaces, put new sealant and plate screwed back on. Refilled with new SMXS 75W-90 (EP80). All good for summer I guess. Today saturday our dealer have their spring doors open day, a semi annual event when the workshop will only do winter to summer wheels changes, but when there also is a chance to see and drive the current models line-up, and plenty entertainment, BBQ, wine and beer, etc.... My wheel change is done already, but we will go and take a look at the new...... Morgan models in the showroom there. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Today I put a new rear door interior panel on and painted the spare wheel holder... getting the spare off and back on the back door was a struggle... HEAVY!
Also finished painting another wheel and made a start on the last one... Hopefully I should have the new wheels on soon... |
