Big Steve,
Obviously there are a multitude of factors that will affect performance, as you so rightly pointed out, tyre size for one, exhaust configuration, RAI, air filter and various other add-ons to name a few! The impractability of producing figures for every set-up is obvious. Hence the reasoning behind performance figure being produced for a 'standard' Defender with no enhancements! I'd like to see them too! Just out of interest! I know of two map providers that have done just that! It was one of the deciding factors for me that I chose the product I did as the evidence was there to see for myself! Wot no figures?? Apart from a 95mph speed limiter??
He does mention about only delivering this amount of power and torque with V3 with an intercooler? What power? What torque? I'd love to know! Just an observation! Unswitchable, Autobidgit it may be, however I know exactly how much I've 'potentially' gained in both BHP and NM of torque! The way you drove a couple of old nags would seem like a rocket up your 'Driving Miss Daisy' jacksy! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

When I started looking for a remap I wanted one which would give me more torque when towing my 2 ton caravan or my 1.5ton boat. I was all set to go to BAS for my remap as I am going to be in York staying with the caravan for the Driffield show. I did start a deeper search looking at all the feedback for tunes from Autologic, Alive and BAS- IRB, the results of the search then led me to contact Alive tuning and ask quite bluntly whether or not they could supply a remap which would suit my own personal needs. I wanted to know if it was possible to get a remap which would give me more torque for towing but at the same time I also wanted better fuel economy and should the need arise, I wanted it to go like sh*t off a shovel in boy racer mode. Now I started to worry about flat spots certain members on here are experiencing and brought this up as well, the replies I got where the remap you will receive will have no flat spots and if it does we will either fix them or you can have your money back. Now this for me is what made me decide on getting the tune from Alive, I emailed Alive (Gary) and he responded quickly even though it was outside of hours. Now I'm not implying one remap supplier is better than another as all I can comment on is the service and personal service I received from Alive tuning in the tune I received. And I am delighted with the remaps I received as I got three separate files each doing what I asked for in the initial contact email. Now to reiterate what I've already said about them, Version 1 is very similar to the original map supplied by Landrover except it is far smoother in engine running and the torque band is wider than standard. Version 2 as I've said already is like the original plus 50% in power through torque in acceleration and no need to drop down a gear at higher speeds when you hit a hill, which is what happened with the original tune, same hill same loading in 6th gear with version 2 is a breeze. I was very wary of installing version 3 because I was wary of overloading the engine Turbo, propshafts and wondering what damage could be caused to the drivetrain. As I currently have no mods on the engine I only tried version 3 for about 2 hours without putting a heavy load onto the engine. Now when I get around to fitting my new uprated props and the bigger intercooler with new silicone hoses, decat pipe and SS exhaust system plus the fitting of a EGT guage so I can keep an eye on things plus the scanguage and nanocom live data I think I will have a good base to start using version 3 or maybe a stronger remap? Who knows!
As to whether or not a graph showing power, torque bands would have swayed me to one remap supplier or another? I would say that it is easy to print great figures and power gains for all to see, however the proof is in the pudding as I see it and that is why I have an Alive tune.
If you read the above description of version 3 which I received from Gary you will see he is hiding nothing about the possible damage that could be expected should I ignore his advice on hammering the Landy with this tune on. He knew my Landy was bog standard and still managed to deliver 3 excellent tunes for me to use, again He knew I am going to get the bigger intercooler etc and that is the reason for v3. I will also get the EGR to minimum upgrade for free once they have refined the map on their own new Puma defender ( This will be a standard free upgrade to all who have the Alive remap. ). **** NOW THIS IS ALL MY PERSONAL OPINION OF MY MONEY SPENT ON A REMAP FOR MY LANDY**** AFTER ALL ISN'T THAT WHAT THIS FORUM IS ALL ABOUT? |

Couldn't agree more Lorryman but there's alot to gain from healthy debate too, which is what this forum is all about too! As long as it doesn't degrade into a debacle! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
