And another Coleman user.
We use 1l Sigg bootles for the fuel, a full cooker and 2 of those lasted us two weeks in and around Corsica. The are almost a perfect size for the tailgate, although I have converted mine to a side opening tailgate, so had to fab a foling table, it still works pretty well. Ben 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Sweep, the problem with putting a coleman on the door is that the generator (i called it injector but the correct name is generator) is actually pretty fragile. the repeated closing bang of the door and the vibration from driving could easily damage the generator, after all, its just a fine needle inside a small diameter tube. I've used these stoves for a lot of years and whilst they are fantastic, they do need to be well looked after and maintained, so for me, I wouldn't do what you're suggesting - at least not without taking at least one spare generator with you.

Was thinking of having a drop down tray for it to sit on when we are stationary(i would pack it in back of vehicle for travelling), just wondering as i saw one the other week and cannot remember who made it. I should of mentioned that, apologies  . But thank you for your advice, will be purchasing a spare generator me thinks

Drop open box for gas stove. To be honest it's in the way when open, as the rear door doesn't open far enough

Cheers Willy, where did you get the drop open box? I see what you mean that it doesnt afford much room to gain entry into back of defender. Was kind of thinking we'd be settled somewhere so wouldn't really need to perhaps get into back to retrieve stuff. The missus probably wouldn't be happy with it on back door anyway and would want stove on table in porch of tent, i just like the idea of it to put stuff on and maybe stove.

I find that a small table with adjustable height legs is great. takes up no room, that way you can sit in your chair and stir the whatever without having to be standing/leaning in the back of the landrover. I dropped that when I had my old MOD 90 with a gas stove in it - made a very spicy curry and the smell was in the truck for about 6 months

Mobile storage solutions if you want one, i use mine for fishing gear now, and have a pop up table like Mike suggests Original Member Pie n Pea Club.

Cheers BigMike & Willy. As said the missus probably wouldn't go with it! SWMBO wins... And a table does make sense, we currently use a table with the old gas stove we have at the minute.

MSS also do a drop down table with is probably more suited to putting a coleman stove on.
However, a square of chequer plate, a few hinges and a length of wire and you could make your own. All those parts are available from B&Q and would cost a fraction of the cost of a proper table. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

we as a family have been using an old trangia for the last couple of outings and firstly 20 plus years packed away and it still works as there ars no working parts or parts that will rust, and secondly its a liquid fuel stove so you can see how much fuel you have, unlike gas which is always a bit of a guess, thirdly (is that even a word
 ) it all packs away in one package so you pick up your stove and you have your kettle and a couple of pans and a frying pan/lid all with a wind guard, ok its not the quickest but look at the plus points.

Ah the old trangia. Takes me back to my scouting days. I still have one in my loft somewhere. Virtually (and I mean virtually) indestructible but they take forever and the bottom of your pan gets covered in soot (I never did get that washing up liquid trick to work). There's nothing quuite like eggs spot welded to an aluminium pan and bacon half boiled in marg to set you up for a day's walking One that started out as a 2.4 TDCi 110 XS

Not a huge fan of petrol for stoves (bit too scary for me and a bit too much messing about for me!) so we decided on a gas stove.
After spending ages on google looking at the various models I found a Coleman one on an Australian camping shop website that looked just the ticket. It runs on coleman LPG canisters but is also supplied with fittings and hose for an ordinary LPG bottle. I couldn't find the same stove on any UK shop website so I emailed Coleman EU (actually Camping Gaz EU) to ask - but no, that one isn't a Euro model and you can only get the ones that use the very expensive little Coleman canister. Figured the 1 1/2 hour burn time on that might be a bit impractical and expensive on a long trip so back to the drawing board! I googled a bit more and saw a few stoves fro Camping Gaz, Gelert, Outwell, etc that looked something like and then popped in to Go Outdoors to check em out in the flesh. What a lot of TAT for not insignificant amounts of cash! Back to google! Then found a solid looking little stove by Cadac. Not heard of them before but a good look around the net told me they seem to be a very well respected South African BBQ specialist. Only trouble was, this nice stove seemed to be Out of Stock just about everywhere. Finally found a possible outlet - a Caravan and Leisure dealer in Essex. Rang em to check stock and bought. http://www.homesteadcaravans.co.uk/cadac-2-cook-deluxe-stove/ Lovely quality, really solid, hopefully should stand up to overland use - and you get a couple of grill plates which look the dog's whatsits for Big Breakfast and BBQ! Only trouble was the lid doesn't clip shut and the plates have to live outside of the stove when it is closed. So back on google! Found that there is another South African company called Camp Cover - and they do a cover / bag specially for the above stove. Found some on the myway website but also some on LRSOffroad's ebay shop. Ordered from LRS over the weekend, delivered today. Good quick service. What you want.
