Interesting read,
Been looking for a new cooker for ages, but they all look cheap tat, with no quality. Fancy a http://www.touring-gear.com/products/Primu...rner.html, but no stock in over a year. Love the sound of the high pressure of this one, but using standard bottle. Cadac are a good make, and am sure will be good quality. We used to use a different version of a cadac. Andy |

We cycled round the world for 6 yrs with 2 trangiers and they never let us down. all the high tech stoves others were using got blocked jets, perished seals and weeping valves, but the trangiers were faultless! We burned everything from Ozzo, paint stripper, rubbing alcohol to some thing called 'Nitro' that was unbelievable! now we have gone up in the world a bit so have upgraded the cookers to the 5* version ... jolly good it is as well - regularly used! Made to fit into the back of a 110, not cheep - but well worth it! We will be using the Orion out of the boat from now on, same principle fill up the containers with meths and away you go, no smells, no nasty gasses emitted and can be put out with water in an emergency
EDIT - Well having used it quite a bit, I wouldn't recommend it, not having gas onboard is a real safety advantage BUT it's a PITA to light and it's gets through meths like nothing else about a litre every 3 days and at £20 for 5 litres it's not cheap may as well buy some Fish 'n' Chips :D Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated Last edited by Zagato on 13th Jun 2012 12:52pm. Coleman are very good ans I still have and use one, though I did use to have an Ex army Diesel cooker which was really really good and robustand made from stainless steel, found an old ebay link with a picture in.

If you plan to use your cooker anywhere really cold then stay away from Gas type

I know Butane only can be a problem in cold temps - last time we changed our caravan we swopped out the butane bottle for a propane one.
Camping wise my stove will be used for spring/summer/autumn trips in the UK, so will probably stick with butane for those as you can get it in smaller bottles than propane. In Australia overnight temps may fall quite low, either in the desert overnight or in the mountains during the snow season. However, my research suggests that in Oz propane or a propane/butane mix is far more commonly used and available than pure butane. Will need to be a bigger bottle there anyway as we will be camping for a lot longer than on UK trips. Plenty of Australians are quite happy to go bush with an LPG stove so really I don't see supply as being an issue. The gas bottles are pretty safe and we have figured out where to store one in the motor. We are staying away from Coleman duel fuel stoves as we don't want to be carrying and decanting petrol in hot temps. I'm a bit phobic about that sort of thing and I'd not be confident using one. All that messing about and having to have spares and keeping jets clean and all that puts me off too. |

our 'camping gaz' bottle is mounted under the rear inside wing - so is outside the wagon.
A bottle normally lasts us for a year, which includes a 2 or 3 week trip. Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html Elgar -TDCI(Puma) 110XS Dormobile - now sold Devon & Cornwall 4x4 Response - DC126 |

Hi all,
We use a JetBoil for a brew and, after reading the review in Overland Journal, I treated us to one of Partner Steel's creations - 22" twin burner. It is a great piece of kit and burns propane so fine in cold weather. www.partnersteel.com/?prod01 All the best, Peter Defender 11MY USW |

Are Partne cookers available in the UK or is it a direct import? If so where from please. Looks like a nice bit of kit. DJ 1989 200tdi 90 csw 2011 110 usw Orkney grey Buy British 🇬🇧 Defender Clothing Designs available at http://www.rangesports.com/acatalog/Defender-Stuff.html |

Hi,
The Partner Stove was a direct import. It's a lovely piece of gear, but by the time it landed in the UK (and paid the taxes) it wasn't cheap. Bill at Partner is really easily to deal with - getting them to export to the UK wasn't a problem. All the best, Peter Defender 11MY USW |

Cheers for that Peter
Have been in touch with Bill at Partner already and got a decent discount for two item shipped to UK, still came out a bit steep though so I'm going to hang on until I next go and bring one back in luggage (assuming that's allowed of course). Time for another refurb on my Coleman Petrol and keep that going this season. The only downside of that is Mrs H doesn't like using it so I end up doing all the cooking! Did get a Coleman perfect flow single burner at Xmas time for the odd cuppa and that seems to be a pretty powerful burner for £20 of less. I know that it uses the expensive 'non refillable' canisters but they can actually be re filled with the right adaptor. Interesting reading.
I use the coleman dual fual twin burner for the main, everyday cooking. We run it on unleaded and generally get a seasons use out of it before it needs cleaning up. We have had it since 2006 and it still works like a dream. I am planning this year to get a full refurb kit just to treat it a little. For tea and coffee stops we use an MSR pocket rocket and a metal mug (Army surpuls 58 pattern one). This fits neatly into our brew box and means we don't have to heave out he coleman just for a cup of tea. The mug holds just the right amount of water for 2 army spec thermal mugs, which is perfect for the mrs and me. Pan wise, we use a set of MSR non stick pans, a Primus kettle which fits inside the MSR pann, and a frying pan. We also have the Colemen oven if we really feel like cooking up something different. Does anyone use the Kelly Kettles? 2002 Defender 110 DC |

I've used a Kelly kettle quite a bit over the years. It's a double edged sword in that it's a quick way of producing a useful volume of hot water, but can be a bit of a faff to get going and tidy up afterwards.
If I'm honest, it's mainly just an excuse to play with fire. Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought!" - Princess Leia |
