Arrrrrr !!! 2 Polish lorries on the M6 side by side both on limiters for 5 junctions nearly 20miles i was towing the Ifor guess how much i was looking at the outside and the hard shoulder very tempting but i stayed put like a good boy.

morons who put there rear fog lights on in mist or drizzle at night and leave them on until at least April (the law of use is, 100 metres or less vision in fog or falling snow) 2.4 90 XS

People whose minds fuse when confronted by blue flashing lights:-
1) Last week I was following a eurobox up a local road, one mile dead straight up a slight hill, national speed limits, clear conditions, not another vehicle in sight. Johnny Eurobox is managing a magnificent 40mph and I am about to overtake when, whoa! over the hill towards us comes an ambulance with blues and twos on! Panic! Our Johnny then stops dead and waits for the the ambo to pass! This is despite there being no other vehicles in sight anywhere! 2) About three months ago one Sunday evening, in the pitch dark, I am trundling along a local A road. Clear conditions, wet road, national speed limits, no junctions, but a series of bends with not very good vis have double whites for about 1 mile. Very light traffic, nothing in front for about the last 15 minutes. I am doing 50 or so (safe speed bearing in mind the bends) and as I round one of them there is an ambo on my side across the solids coming towads me, because Johnny Eurobox (probably a different one) has stopped completely when he's seen the ambo coming behind him. By doing this he has not only created a very dangerous situation, but has also broken at least two motoring laws and forced the ambulance driver into a dangerous and illegal manoeuvre. Question - what would you do if an emergency vehicle came up behind you when you are on a road with solid white lines and there is nowhere for you to pull off the carriageway? |

BW, I'd accelerate until the point it was safe for him to pass, then i d indicate left to show him i was pulling over so he could get past.
The thing which is really annoying me at the moment is that at crossroads junctions with lights, if youre turning right and a vehicle coming the other way is also turning right (his right) you should pass driver to driver not passenger to passenger ie you should go behind him to the left, and he should go behind you to his left. Most people do not get this at all, and think you ve driven too far so just sit and wait, but why oh why are our local council now painting turning boxes on the roads which show passenger to passenger? ie not the highway code. this is what i mean Click image to enlarge |

Correct answer! Emergency vehicle drivers are not allowed to cross solid white lines (although in this area plod seems to thing that it is OK for them to do so).
I have never understood why they do this either. Not far from me there is a turning into a very busy retail park that has been set up like this, and due to curvature and camber the only way to turn right into it now the road markings are like those in the pic is to wait in the junction until the lights go red again. Before the lines were painted, it was safe and easy because you could clearly see oncoming traffic. I think that part of the problem is that the loonies who now run the asylum have this unshakeable conviction that they know better than anyone else on any subject, when clearly they don't. There is also probably a European Right-Turn-Road-Marking Directive which we follow to the letter, but which all other countries (especially the French*) will ignore completely. * If you are French and reading this, please don't take offence - none is intended! Exactly correct - they just did one down the road from us.
Also makes it impossible for oncoming traffic to see cars cutting across if there are cars heading right from both directions. I expect it will take a number of accidents before this crazy stuff stops 2001 TD5 110 DCPU in Bonatti Grey |

Clarkson had the best quote that Fogs turn off automatically at speeds over 20mph as lets face it if you can do over this why do you need fogs |

Why do you need rear fog lights at all? Personally I am convinced that they are one of the most dangerous features of a modern car and I am fairly sure that they have caused more accidents than they have prevented. You drive at a speed that allows you to stop in the distance you can see to be clear. If there is a car in front with rear fog lights on, then (a) it is far harder to tell how far away it is is, and (b) you are far more likely not to notice when the brake lights come on (I understand that this is the reason that high level brake lights were introduced - to increase the separation between fog and brake). If it was up to me I would ban them immediately! As for front fog lights, if it was up to me the law would require that they went out if the headlights are on and can only be used (with sidelights) but without headlights. If there is sufficient fog or falling snow to merit foglights, only a fool would have headlights on. I cannot conceive of conditions ever justifying the use of rear fogs lights in darkness, only during thick fog in daytime (and that is highly questionable). Similarly I cannot conceive of conditions ever justifying the use of front foglights in daytime. Finally both front and rear foglights when on should cause a really irritating audible warning to sound continuously inside the car (something like a 'wife') in order to ensure that they are turned off as soon as possible. I have said it before and doubtless I shall say it again, the most effective safety device you could fit to a car would be a sharp prong in the centre of the steering wheel - then, and only then, will everyone drive carefully. (As a moderate man perhaps there should be a legal requirement for prongs to be fitted if the dirver has fewer than say 5 years driving experience.) |

The stupidest tiny little thing got my blood boiling yesterday and i mean proper boiling and it is such an infitesimally small thing that you will all call me stupid. The 90 went in to Matfords for 156thou service yesterday, yes they wanted to keep it in re front bushes being knackered and was told its dangerous ect ect that does not bother me, the thing that me off is some one had removed the spare wheel cover to check i guess tyre depth pressure and had not put the cover back on straight HOW BLOODY HARD CAN IT BE !!!!!!!!!! and if you move something in the cab PUT IT BACK WHERE IT CAME FROM !!! not just chuck it on the passenger seat. ITS NOT HARD.
