I know a few people who have used this company http://www.rooftentslimited.co.uk/. Not the best of website, but have heard the tents are awesome quality. Glyn |

Russ there is a wide range of roof tents out there.
Some are from the well known manufacturers such as Autohome/Maggiolina, Howling Moon, Hannibal and Eazi Awn. Then there are the les know Prime Tech etc and other ebay specials. Some of the cheapo ones talk about pvc canvas! Ensure you compare material specifications. There are basically two types of roof tents, hard shell and fold out tents The hard shell tents can be subdivided into clam type or horizontal opening ones. Advantages of hard shell is speed of erection and packing away. More aerodynamic so have less impact on mpg compared to folding rooftents. Awnings and changing rooms available. Disadvantage compared to folding tents is smaller and more expensive. Fold out tents are larger and cheaper then the hard shell tent Changing rooms more readily available Would suggest that before making your mind up look at as many as possible. Also get people to demonstrate putting tent up and away again completely as in ready to travel. I timed one guy putting his fold out tent away and that was 22 minutes and I did not start timing at the beginning. The higher the vehicle/smaller your statute the more awkward putting some tents away can be Roof tents can be mounted on two preferably 3 roof bars or a full roof rack. Depending where catches are on roof tent and style of roof rack depends where you can mount certain roof tents. HTH Brendan |

Russ, a roof tent is what I say should be a 'considered' purchase rather then an impulse buy. Take your time to make sure you get one right for YOU! (and not right for the sales person!)
At outdoor shows we display foxwings on both our red 110 and the black 110 but we actually demonstrate the opening/closing of the foxwing on just the black 110. Why? The red 110 as a 2" lift and as we are not over tall people it is more awkward to put the foxwing away on the red 110. So peoples statute, height of vehicle and the way tents/awnings go away all have an effect on there user friendliness etc. So ensure you are happy with the whole procedure from pulling up at campsite to being ready to move off HTH Brendan |
