4x4 Overlander will normally fit them for forum members without charge. Please note that that dependent on the roof rack and the particular roof tent depends on possible location of the tent. Also dependent on the roof bars depends on whether the clamps have to be modified. I am thinking in particular off the Thule aero bars which are low profile but wide. HTH Brendan |

You've lost mw. Pivot? Are we not talking about a maggi? That's why I asked re the XL. The walls are vertical.. Brendan, your other post saud fitting usually 75 quid I think, hence my point re free fitting from boab. They're pretty easy to fit though let's face it |

Hi Mike,
I think you will find that both Nene Overland and Boab normally charge 75 + VAT for fitting. I was trying to give people a general idea on costs. Actual final deals will vary on case by case basis Whereas on some roof tents/roof bars/roof racks the fitting can be straight forward on others not so straight forward. Reaching the fittings under a Patriot roof rack at the back of a Defender can be awkward unless you have thin forearms. I find it easier in that situation to hoist the back of the Patriot roof rack away from the roof. Will be fitting a Patriot rack and roof tent to a Disco 2 shortly. Will mount the roof tent onto the rack first then lift the whole lot up together.. On a Patriot type rack you have to use a spacer on the U bolt or spot weld a coach bolt on. Aero bars might involve drilling out brackets and then welding on new coach bolts. Autohome roof brackets have good galv on which needs removing before welding. Using an electric hoist makes life easier especially doing it single handed. Yes they can at times be straightforward on other combinations not so straight forward. One of the problems with fora is that at times I do not always express what I mean clearly, if so I apologies for that. Anyway off to NEC shortly. Will see how much interest there is in Autohome/maggiolina roof tents. Should be an interesting week Brendan |

Hi Stoo,
First I have no personal experience of either tent but will make a couple of comments Safari Equip states
What do they actually mean by that? Canvas used to be cotton, now considered to be mixed cotton/polyester say 30/70 Terrain vehicles
D I assume to be denier which is a fibre measurement Waterproofs used to be made from PU coated nylon. PU could/used to delaminate from base fabris particularly in high crease areas I used to make rope tackle bags for caving out of polyester coated with PVC. Think the polyester used to be 800-1000 denier. Very strong certainly not breathable. I would certainly suggest you question the breathability of these fabrics Brendan |

It is a side awning, and changing room. You can also attach an extra set of guy lines and drive away from it.
It is good as it allows you to get in and out of the tent without getting wet, Click image to enlarge Also have a rear awning that I made. Andy Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

Brendan - thanks for the responses - good points - I have no intention of buying a roof tent without seeing them in real life.
What do we reckon is the best one out there - want a fold-out 1.4m canvas style (not a clamshell), with a section that covers the ladder/back of the truck. Hannibal? Howling Moon? Ezi-Awn? Thoughts? Stoo |

I'm in the same boat as you there. What I can tell after much time spent looking between hannibal and howling moon is that on the hannibal the bit that covers the back of the vehicle has a door at the side and then the back can be opened up, where as the howling moon only has a door at the back. Another thing I found is they both have built in ground sheets. Russell Russell 2011MY 110 XS USW Black |

So I know this is massively digging into the past, but I've been good and persevered with my Search until I dug something up! Anyway, I've got a mate looking into these, has anyone else heard anything about them? Cheers |
