I have to do 800 miles a month on the motorway and at speed it's wind noise though the windows and doors which is loudest and most annoying. The type of work described here doesn't do anything for that so I've just finished installing fixed rear windows, nicely sealed in properly and also a double door seal. Has cut a lot of the wind noise and cold air blasts out especially at 70-80mph. Much improved and closer to car like.

How have you gone about doing the double door seal? I'm replacing mine soon, and would like to do more than just replace with standard.

Firstly I replaced the main door seal and fitted the newer type lower seal. That alone made a big difference but still had lots of whistling at motorway speeds and no amount of adjusting the seals was getting rid of it.
I had some P shaped rubber seal already from a kit car build so glued that to the corner of lip of the door itself on the top and sides - orientated it so the O part of the rubber fills the gap that you see from the inside. Worked a treat, nothing gets though now and looks original if you even notice. Could swear it's warmer now too.

I noticed the biggest difference with the rear wheelarches being coated in NoiseKiller.

Especially when driving on wet roads - much quieter not listening to the spray hitting the wheelarches.

As well as NK in the rear tub and front areas (under carpets etc) I have also added extra Dynamat to the rear panels and generally everywhere I get to during "normal" upgrades (such as inside the rear door when I put the gas strut on)...

Discovery 2 levels of noise now - can talk (to passengers or on my hands-free) at 65mph Thumbs Up Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Before I did my Dinitrol application I did a good stonechip application under all the arches first on top of the LR factory stuff.
That worked a treat too.

I haven't as of yet ever soundproofed the inside as it's not so easy for me with seats and CP in there.

But every little bit does help. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I would recommend it for sure. Fatmat Megamat (top spec) or Rattle Trap (mid spec) is very good and reducing vibration and the tiny sounds. On top of that different thickness of closed cell foam (will not soak up water) will reduce general noise and insulate along side the fatmat. If you can get rubber matting or carpet on top its even better.

When I finished my 90 CSW TD5 you could have a normal conversation at 70, thats with a straight thru and no engine bay deadening! So yes I would suggest it!

With the Fatmat/Dynamat beware once its on its not coming off, so avoid putting across bolt heads etc...
