I'm not, I buy it by the 5L tub from our local motor factor. It's just cheap carplan stuff. Just need to make sure it's low ash 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

And make sure it's suitable for pre-mix.

An interesting article but for south african specification diesel.
Whilst the research says there is no benefit. In a fairly basic diesel system like the Td5 it can't do any harm and also looking at the graphs it did increase lubricity and cetane ratings in "market diesel" even if only by a tiny amount. It definitely makes a difference to injector noise on my 90 so will carry on using it 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

Yes offroading at those kind of angles half a tank plus is definitely advisable! 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

If it's making the injector noise quieter, it means that it's slowing the combustion process.
Two stroke oil is designed not to be burnt but to lubricate the engine, as a two stroke engine has no oil sump. ln a diesel it will most likely just slow the combustion process. |

Two stoke oil lubricates by being physically drawn though the crank case to lubricate the main bearings etc, as it is part of the fuel as well it has to burn or it would eventually coke the combustion chamber and exhaust completely (will do on a motocross bike if you don't use it hard enough)
Once a two stoke is up to running temperature the blue haze of smoke from the exhaust clears as it burns completely which it doesn't when cold hence the smoke. If it lubricates an otherwise dry sump then it must be lubricating the fuel system. If it slowed combustion would it not make it smoke as the diesel would not fully combust? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

A picture of this tank full. Not really trying on this tank so in the orange now at 354 miles I'm guessing around 29.5mpg for this tank so might not get 400 miles but next tank I'll really try. Who knows might be able to squeeze 420 miles out of it

I get about 26 mpg from my TD5 110 in local stop start driving.
l recently had it remapped and if l drive it using the extra torque l get 1-2mpg less. lf l drive it as before, fuel consumption remains at 26mpg. On the motorway l get.....26mpg. But l drive at 65-70mph on the motorway so only to be expected. I was told by my local LR specialist dealer NOT to put two stroke oil in a TD5 as it will eventually damage the injectors. I used to put it in my Transit Connect tdci and it did seem to make the engine a bit smoother. But then l read the article l posted above and stopped using it. |

I find it hard to get my head around the advice that extra lubrication can damage a component. 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

However if I could see evidence to show that adding 2 stroke oil to a vehicle directly caused "x" fuel component to fail then I would consider stop using it.
I find premium fuels have a similar effect, these have extra additives for lubrication too 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |
