Is the OEM diff that bad under normal duties? Sounds like I'll need to come and visit you if and when I need new diff! I really don't understand them! I would like a limited slip in the rear at some point. James

James, just to clarify, the diff is the work of Dave Ashcroft. In answer to the question, are they really that bad, it's a Landrover. No really, mine started pinging at 5k from new whilst driving various passes in Europe. These are road passes not tracks but still work the car with the amount of hairpins etc. It may have lasted forever but I suspect not. L,R wouldn't change it under warranty because the vehicle is modified. Amongst the various things they didn't like were my glovebox mod, wheel spacers ( it has none but the highly trained tech seemed to think it had??), big wheels, again the highly trained techs couldn't get it in their heads that an 18" wheel with a lower profile tyre gives the same rolling diameter ( probably the same person that thought it had wheel spacers)and it "might' be chipped. It wasnt and I might be winning the lottery next week if we're going to live our life's on what might be. Anyway I couldn't really see the point in getting over involved in an argument with them as you can never win an argument with a stupid person and I intended to replace it with a non standard diff at some point to resolve the various weaknesses. Lord knows the next time it's in the poor chaps head is going to explode when he see's my brakes and shortened prop. 😱😱😱
How long will yours last? Who knows. I'm sure there are lots out there that have done big miles but I have also been told from more than one source that LRE are eating rear diffs at an embarrassing rate quoting 10 weeks or every 1000 miles I appreciate you could say this is accelerated wear but it shouldn't be happening at that sort of rate and they shouldn't have given me a hard time about my own diff as though they had never seen or heard of such a thing. |

Quick few jobs today. Along with some security updates I also moved the trailer electrics into the crossmember as it's going in for some warranty paintwork along with a crossmember paint job. Before you ask no it's not rusty it's just oozing dinitrol.

Thanks John, was reading on my mobile and obviously not properly!
So is this a standard available diff from Ashcroft? How is it? Do you feel a different driving it on the road? Is it the one I should put on my list for if/when my diff goes? I'm always surprised with the inconsistency of dealers with warranty work and modifications. I think it was Likeomg on here (I might be wrong) that has pretty much every performance improvement, remap, vvt, 18" wheel and still got a gearbox changed under warranty. Makes no sense. Morning James
I'm not sure about availability as I believe they never really came to market. You might have to butter him up to make you one but yes it is the way forward. Ref the dealer I think your correct. Completely inconsistent and unfortunately the local dealer is pants (though oddly the parts department is the best ever). I would have taken it elsewhere but I was going to change it out anyway. They also ripped my rubber matting and said no it was already like that as the tech put it in his report. I can assure you it wasn't as I have an eye for detail. It's all being absorbed ready for the big slap in the face. 👍 Last edited by John Fair on 10th Dec 2016 11:58am. Edited 1 time in total |

Ooo shiny.
As for the diff, sounds expensive if a special build? Quite impressed with the quality of finish. The Matt Gloss Colour thing went round and round but I'm happy with the end result.

Thanks Clayton, really quite pleased with it. At one point it was even going to be santorini black metallic. Glad it's just plain gloss black now it's done. Even gave it a clean today. 👍🎄
