Hi John, why have you removed the seals? |

Hi. I removed the seal to allow oil migration from the axle to the wheel bearings / drive member splines. It's something I have always done but is often open to great debate. From my personal experience the pros out weight the cons.
Pros easier service as no stripping of hubs etc just a standard axle oil change. Never changed a bearing running in oil although I suspect this is down to the effect of the cons. Cons. Keeping oil contained requires better seal maintainence and inspection. This could actually be a pro not a con as any problems show quickly and you pick up on them. I.e. Drive members working loose shows as oil misting. Rear seals leaking are exactly that and require change. ( again in day to day driving this has never happened and has only occurred very rarely in extreme use)I wonder how many people have grease seals passing unoticed and pressure wash water etc in hence bearing failure. Hope this helps. Last edited by John Fair on 21st Dec 2016 3:36pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Its ok. Gives me something to do on the journey through Europe in the Defender. Yesterday due to a miscalculation on time we had to get a bit footy. Results are pretty consistent to the summer eurotrip. At @90 mph you only get 20mpg. Today's a bit more organised and at @ 60-70 mph were doing 31 mpg. Huge difference and gives a theoretical range of @ 550 miles in a 110 or 350 at full chat

Managed a drive around the Le Mans circuit. The width of the road makes the Defender look really small. 😞

Sorry. Been busy with house stuff. The diff is working absolutely fine and has eliminated several issues, the biggest being the reliability of the standard 110 rear or lack of. If your interested in a long nose p38 conversion I should speak to Dave Ashcroft sooner rather than later. I'm sure he could be talked into making you one. Still no update on the suspension. Spring is coming!!!!!!!! ...... see what I did there😂😂😂
