Oil filter plastic cup, stuck. How to get it off?
I have been searching here on the forum to see if there have been other like me who cannot get the oil filter plastic cup off.
But I seem to be the only useless chap here Smile

Basically I have just drain the oil from the warm engine but now I cannot get the filter cup off. The plastic edges on the “nut” is getting worth and worth. I really try to push hard as I can upwards while turn but no luck.

Is there anyone who know of a trick?

All advise would be appreciated.

Hi its better if you use a 6 sided socket and not the 12 point type Whistle

If that doesn't work then try an oil filter wrench, the strap type. I would definitely look into replacing the black part as well.

Yep def 6 side socket

27mm if I am correct. Same size as your wheel nuts

Put some grease on the threads when you refit / replace it Thumbs Up Chris

Hi Folks,
I have the correct 27mm spanner to remove my oil filter housing but cannot budge it, presumably because the main dealer that last serviced it did it up too tight? If I try too hard it looks like the plastic housing will twist and break.
Does anybody have any tips that will make it easier to remove?
Untried thoughts are: surround it with a pot of boiling water to heat up the plastic, or run engine to warm things up from the inside, both hoping the plastic will expand slightly more than the aluminium engine and thus become easier to remove.

All ideas welcome, thanks. 2.2 90 XS

buy the new one and have it ready before you try again, the one you have will need replacing and may well fail as you remove it and you will then be stuck DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
