Power loss
This one has baffled the main dealers so far. My 2008 model broke down last week. Loss of power and would only drive at around 5 mph (Limp mode?) On idling the revs were unsteady varying between 700 rpm and 800rpm The engine tone also seemed to vary. After switching off the engine and restarting it ran normally for a mile or so but then did the same thing again. Nothing has shown up on fault codes according to the dealer and they checked a few things but are now baffled. Needless to say it didnt happen when they took it for a test drive. Can anyone offer any suggestions or do I trade it in and buy a Dacia Duster. Thanks everyone, if it wasnt for this forum I would have even less hair than I have now.

Sorry I forgot to mention its done 89,000miles.

Thanks for reminding me custom90steve

Would it seriously only do 5mph or was it just seriously down on power - 45mph flat out in 5th?

Hello Ickle
Yes it was down to around 5mph. Definitely less than 10mph. I forgot to mention in my original post when I stopped and let it idle, it idled unevenly for a few seconds and then cut out. A friend suggested fuel problems and said this may not show on fault codes. The main dealer still has it so Im hoping they find something.

Low pressure fuel system or VCV would be a strong contender.

Blocked tank vent?

As there's no fault codes I would think its an unmonitored part of the system, so a simple mechanical fault, so blocked breather, faulty VCV, turbo stuck etc.

Best of luck

Thanks everyone. The main dealer has driven it for 45 miles without incident so will collect it today and hope all is well.

FAO Hornet and Eduardo
Collected from the main dealer today they couldnt find anything wrong but I found something on the Intenet which points towards a volume control valve or fuel vapour valve as LR call it. Hope this helps.

Hummm,

My Defender is now with the Indy due the same issue. Neutral
I hope that he found something if not I probably should change the VCV
My problem is that I have the old BAS remap (with the black box) and If I change the VCV I must to run the re-learn process and I have 3 alternatives:

a) Run over the remap file with the LR hardware and lost the possibility to come back to the normal file.
Also probaly LR will detect the changes and will try to install the last normal file first.

b) Change to the normal file and then run the learning process with LR but I will lost the Remaped file Sad

c) Change to the normal file, run the learning process, upgrade the Remap with BAS (250 GBP)

So, the total cost of the optimal solution will be the 90 GBP + 250 GBP Neutral

Any other thoughts to keep the remaped file? Eduardo

Nearly same as Option C that will give you....

1 Full diagnostic control
2 Latest remap files as yours is 3 years old. Originally made 16/4/2013
3 Latest landRover software at the same time, your current calibration ID is FDD and the latest is FDE
4 To be able to never have to visit the dealers for diagnostics again as you will have your own engine tool.

BAS2 RRC Hardware Addon

Thanks Pete!

For sure I will like to upgrade the remap (option C looks like the most logic one), but appears that I have the possibility to wait a little bit more to do the upgrade (for the sake of my pocket)

Finally according to my Indy, my problem is the MAP sensor that have not reading the temperature correctly.

BTW: Can be possible to have this kind of fault (variation of revs when iddling) due the MAP temperatrure failure?

Cheers Eduardo
