How does everyone get on with their roof racks with regards to wind noise on the motorway. I'm looking at getting a roof rack, I like the slim style and will probably go with a Flatdog one as I can't justify the price of a Hannibal or Patriot. I'm just a little worried about it howling at 70mph.

I've not noticed any wind noise from my Hannibal rack. I forget its there. The rails run front to back instead of side to side so that makes a difference plus my Defender is fully soundproofed.

Really tempted to go back to a rack, the Hannibal rack is probably my first choice. I found all the noise came from the RAI when I had it fitted with the G4 rack. Andy

Not great picture, but got the Nakatanga cargo bars
Low profile and I can add to as I want

Currently just need the bars, but added the awning adapators

No wind noises that I have ever noticed with my Patriot. Euro-Leafing to infinity and beyond.....

Here's mine, custom made, awaiting to be painted:

It's heavily inspired by the Brownchurch ones, same tube spec. Includes a mount for 4 jerry cans at the rear and built in sand board mounts

My two-penneth: my missus rolled (several times) a 110 fitted with a Brownchurch Heavy Duty with the vertical struts, if it didn't save her life it certainly saved her from serious injury. But having it permanently fitted made a big difference to fuel economy. Are you sure you need one? Since then I've used removable bars and a roofbox.

I prefer to leave the roll over protection to the Safety Devices rollcage.

I'm leaving for a 11000km Africa expedition by the end of this month, so yes, I need the rack. If I had a 110 I perhaps could go around it, but on a 90 every inch of space is valuable

Birdy, similar experience. Have been in a 90 which rolled with a full stainless steel roof rack. Am convinced the roof rack prevented the front of the roof coming down too far. We got out without any injuries.

Full roof rack v roof bars? Fuel economy? Well it is a Defender

Now if all you want to do is mount a roof tent for 2-3 weeks a year then 2 or 3 roof bars is fine.

If you are a jobbing joiner then a full roof rack might be the better options.

Yes I have talked people out of buying a full roof rack as all they were going to do is mount a hard shell roof tent on a 90. IMO 2/3 roof bars were the better option.

Now OK you can argue I am biased but what I like about the Nakatanenga Cargo Bear roof rack is that it is completely modular.

110 Cargo Bear roof rack take it off, take one section off and it will fit a 90. Going away on holiday with a roof tent then take connecting bars off and use 3 roof bars to support your roof tent.

Think very carefully how you intend using the roof rack before deciding which one to buy would be my advice.

Yes have used stainless roof rack, Patriot rack, Rhino Rack bars and Nakatanenga Cargo Bear system.

Looking at yours makes me wonder if I would be able to fit in a half internal/external cage on my 110SW and retain the current hannibal roof rack.

Miker, I think the Hnnibal could work with custom rack legs.
A NAS style external side bars could maybe work around the standard Hannibal legs, but I can't recal one available for the 110

Miker have a few words with the lads at Performance and Protection.

Specialist in roll cages and the chances are they have already done one, if not they could adapt one of their standard cages to meet your needs.
