Ah I see, plastic deformation. It is a shame they dont sell new bolts really. I am also not sure that the bolts were anywhere near yield tight but then again I didnt design the calipers. I am going to grab a couple of new calipers anyway for the sake of getting the truck back on the road asap.

I used Bearmach on mine in July and 10k miles later they are doing fine! Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

gone for a pair of bearmach for £100. They are zinc coated which seems like a better idea than the AP ones which hold on to the dirt!

I have refurbished the calipers of our 110 about a year ago and have split them and fitted stainless pistons. I picked up somewhere on the net that you should torque the caliper bolts to 70Nm. I think it was on the lr4x4 forum and it was based on the average force needed to undo them IIRC.
If you don't manage to remove corrosion in the cylinder bores with Scotchbrite, than you'd better replace the calipers. I had to look around for the longer gallery seals (the o-rings between the halves) for the front calipers and found them at shop4autoparts. Mind that there's a small tube in them which is a separate part, take care not to throw it away! Greetings, Joris |

While that 70Nm may work fine, (and continues to do so in the case of my rear calipers) some of the engineering logic and assumptions behind it a bit spurious.
Beware that YMM(literally)V. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

Might be worth contacting the likes of Urban truck/twisted etc etc as they may have complete take off std brake kits. I managed to get a complete brake kit for a friend of mine... I picked up new disc's, pads and calipers front and rear at a very reasonable price...
It might be worth having a ring around and see who's got what. Regards Tim It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse... 2013 Bowler 110 (Sold) 2016 Bowler 90 Rally Spec (Sold) |
