no, in general lenses cannot be interchanged between diferent manufacturers. This is one of the main reason to be loyal to one or other brand. Chhers Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

if you are buying the top line lenses then no they are not changeable as the mounts and electrics are incompatible ... so you need to make up your mind before you commit .. like 'campy and shimano' you can get things to work together but with some restrictions and compromises. The 2nd hand route is truly the best way to go to start as you can get a top line 2 yrs old camera and lenes for a lot less than you think, as there is no ceiling in price for photography, and if you are new to photography then you will really not know the difference of a new model from a older one. dont look at pixels numbers, look at functionality and how it feels in your hand. A solid camera will last you for an age and it will be unlikely that you reach the limits of its capabilities my partner is a pro photographer and uses canon bodies and L lenses, and has not had any problems with either cameras or lenses in over 25 yrs. so its back to you to take your time and see what is on the market and choose your new toy ! Have a look on the London Camera exchange web site to get some idea of 2nd hand prices https://www.lcegroup.co.uk/ Or the Real Camera Co http://www.realcamera.co.uk/ Another good way of determining what camera is best for you is to visit a store that will let you try them out. the best store for this is Calumet it has stores nationwide and perhaps one of the best outlets for camera knowledge. https://www.calphoto.co.uk/ What bumps up the price of cameras nowadays is the things added to them such such as WiFi connectivity and GPS stamping in the Meta Data, both of which you will probably never need, and if you do not then why pay for these features, so go for a camera that takes photographs only. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

Just to throw a spanner in the works !!
I have used Nikon SLR's and DSLR's for years, last one was a D7000. All were excellent apart from one thing, the weight ! I do a lot of long distance walking and found I was leaving the D7000 at home most of the time due to the weight of the body and a couple of lenses. In May I decided to sell the lot and go mirrorless. Purchased an Olympus OMD EM10 mk2 and a couple of lenses and have not looked back. Image quality is excellent and the whole lot is as light as a feather. Might be something to consider ?
