Hi
I have had the inserts that sit behind the exisiting glass on my last Defender and work were very effective (Bolt on Bits/ Mud Stuff) Only issue was when you break a mirror you have to buy two replacement pads as they are only sold as a pair. For my 90 i went for a set of Spafax unbreakable heated mirrors from Bearmach. Again they work fine and very useful not just for clearing ice but also great for clear drizzle. Finally peace of mind when laning. I have wired them to the rear heated screen to save on additional switches Hope useful Mark |

These are ready made, but expensive compared to DIY.

I made my own mirrors, was a bit fiddley.
Getting the cable through the spring part took ages, so £60 seams fair to me! The parts must cost £40. If you read the devon 4x4 wirte up.... http://la7dja.org/defender/mirror-heating/ When you make the groove for the cable into the hinge, make the groove a bit bigger or the cable will be crimped and eventually brake. |

Landrover is really behind the game by not offering these off the shelf. They would be one of the first mods I would make to a Defender. 2011 110 USW

I made this mod on my Td5 last year. few meters of cables, a relay, 2 heating sticker that i got from ebay for 5 pounds or so and the advices of a good man from the forum (diesel_jim). It took me less than 3 hours overall to have it fitted. Yes the dashboard on the Td5 is much simpler to open than the Puma one but as soon as the weather improves i am going to do it on the Puma as well.
I promise this time i'm going to document it. |

I used these, ok so they restrict visibility but they're cheap.

hi
if any one has done this on a puma, and have a few pictures, it would be good to see them. also, if you have a genuine land rover switch to turn on and off, what part number? and my 3rd question, could these be put onto a timer like a heated window? if so, what should be used? Cheers keith puer claudius |

If you have a Heated Front Screen, why not use that to trigger a relay?, or even run them directly depending on the power requirements.
![]() Not wanting to drill holes just yet, as my 90 is only 10mths old, I just used elasticated plastic bags over the mirrors when parked up this winter. Worked fine even when -12C ![]() |

As Keith, concerning the 3rd question, I would suggest to use the switch and timer unit as used for the heated front screen.
I've installed these parts last week (on my Td5), wiring is pretty straightforward ![]() Depending if you plan to use a timer module you could consider to install YUG000470LNF (Heated Rear Screen Switch) ![]() or YUG000460LNF (Heated Front Screen Switch). ![]() See also : http://www.reedx.net/landrover/mods/2002dash/part5/index.htm Peter, Defender 110 StaWa - Td5 Defender 110 HCPU - Puma Defender 90 Soft Top - Td5 |

Peter
chhers for the info, never though about just using the heated screen setup, but that will be my first point of attack, then may be a second relay if and when permits. Cheers keith puer claudius |

i have a HFS and my thoughts were to split the output from the HFS relay and take a feed from there to each mirror as well as the screen.
any know if there would be an issue/problem doing that? Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |

James...
My mirrors run off of the front screen circuit, but where the timer unit triggers the screen relay, i just ran another cable to a second relay, which runs both mirrors. both relays sit next to each other in the under-seat compartment/box thing. the mirrors have their own fused supply. |

cheers Jamie,
so the HFS goes off on time but the mirrors dont? i was thinking of taking the feed from the timer relay and splitting it to a 2nd relay (if needed?) for the mirrors? so the mirrors go on with the button but off with the timer same as the screen.
