Wrong, if the spare is defective it is a "pass and advise" From MOT Testers handbook Section 4.1: "This inspection applies to tyres fitted to the road wheels only. The vehicle presenter should be informed when it is noticed that there is a defective tyre on a spare wheel." |

I take mine to an Independent land rover garage and have done so with the 90's and Disco I have owned. They go in for a service then the MOT is done. The service sheet is more like an MOT check so mine seldom fail a MOT. Once a mechanic found a screw in a rear tyre when he removed it for a brake check and clean, swapped the tyre with the spare and sent the defective tyre to a local tyre dealer and had it repaired at no charge as they had had a joiner in doing some repairs the day before and he may have dropped some screws. Now that's what you call service. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

That is good service! I'm just glad today that the whole ordeal is over and I have my time and life back after two bloody days.
Regardless of anything concerned, everyone expects to be treated with respect, regardless of any issues or not. Not looked up and down and treated with contempt. After a day or two thinking about it I believe it was deliberate, possibly a workshop joke with the "boys". Another thing was a visual check of the brakes, despite the fact I accidentally left the locking wheel nut key at home and that was.... OKAY. Even, also mentions that access to view brake pads / discs was not possible but still OK. (I know they are all fine, they've been checked by D44 and me in the last 6 weeks and all is perfect so all good. I think most of you on here and your views are also being spot on too. Main thing is, certificate and keys in my hand and I'm off. Will never go back. They only have barely 3 star reviews on google. many 1* Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. If I went there with my 90 I was probably arrested.
Al my tyres have damage inside outside and profile part bus as long as you can't see the structual part it isn't a problem in The Netherlands. If you want a Land Rover to fail, I think you can always find something and better then that. Roel 1984 90 2.5 na Diesel - RR V8 (1994-2001) 1997 Camel Trophy Discovery 300TDI (2001-2009) 2005 G4 Discovery III 4.4 V8 (2008-2018) It's gone but it still hurts. 2003 90 Td5 (2009-now) |

Of course, like here for instance. Mine failed because of the electronic test results of the rear suspension. My dealer then put brand new shocks, I went for the retest, and again same poor result. I showed them the dealer invoice for the new shocks, tester consulted with his boss who told him to do a dynamic road test. Dynamic road test was perfect, so I passed. I then inquired about this with our TCS, the Swiss equivalent of the ANWB or AA who have similar test equipment. They said don't bother, that type of electronic vibrating equipment to test the suspension will always give a very bad result on a Defender. Only the dynamic road test should be determining if a Defender rear suspension is good or bad... So I have probably new shocks installed for nothing. Next technical inspection which is in two years from now, I will be prepared with the invoice and all. Eric http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic46374....ear+shocks You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Ridiculous isn't it.
Mine has had a full set of new shocks, and springs, seats, and associated parts this year. As well as a complete service, brake fluid change and obviously a full check is included in that. Plus a check by me on top. I still maintain it was done on purpose because I had about 5 straight passes at the same place. (Which will be the last visit!) I did find the tester on Faceache, needless to say he's just the type I was thinking of. And certainly not highly experienced. I'd say around 26 - 32 max yrs of age, not much older than myself in fact. The last testers I had in the past were very nice guys. (Had the same one for 3 yrs straight, he left. I'm not surprised either..) Even if there was a minor advisory like rear diff pinion oil seal leak, he'd pop out and chat about it quite happily and discuss things. This one hid away and kept it that way. (He missed a couple of 1mm stone chips on my windscreen though, surely that'll kill simeine wont it.) I understand safety asnd always keep on top of everything to the best of my ability but there is safety and ridiculousness. That doesn't of course include the pretentious attitude. Personally, I wish here in the U.K. we had rules like N.Z. And Aus. Won't be long until a high performance car will need to be 70mph limited because it CAN do 140mph. You've had a raw deal there Steve, and the only positive thing you can take from it is experience.
I'd be a lot more pee'd off than you were, so I think they got off lightly. As you say, they have at least one, possibly more, lost customers. MOT's can be stressful and challenging enough without individuals being petty and obstructive. I'm sorry to hear you were messed about. It's my MOT (well, the truck not me personally) next month, and I'm waiting for some comments about the towing eyes on my steering guard (fitted a few months ago) protruding slightly in front of the bumper..... You're right about the 70 mph limitation/restriction! Fortunately I'm already restricted to 56mph |

Touch wood it should be okay, I have shackles etc on mine and that is okay.
It just depends on whether you get an idiot of a tester or not. My main lesson will be stay away from all main dealers for everything possible except genuine parts. Only issue is good indi's can be difficult to find, D44 even though 60 miles away suits me for most things, but will have to sort out MOT next year. Hope all goes well and you don't get a laddish or a player type of tester. Hopefully a skilled man with common sense and sensible attitude. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. Unfortunately that is not universally the case here mate! Victoria and N.S.W require older cars to have an annual safety check. But here is W.A, NO checks! So you can have any old car, bald tyres, no brakes, EVEN tiny cuts is sidewalls, driving around! Actually NOT good... I think it will finally take a fatality caused by a totally un-roadworth vehicle directly affecting a Politician to see things change here! Personally, I think the UK system is bloody good and very fair... but is is dependant on getting a 'sensible' tester too! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Little update on this tonight, haven't really driven much at night since this was done.
It's obvious to me, where I originally asked for my headlights to be aligned. This has not been done, or poorly done. The lights are still too low as they originally were. The tester must be a complete**** So for now, I'll leave them alone until I get some Noldens hopefully and then go to a decent place to get them aligned properly. I think Halfords would do a better job than these clowns I've been to. Play Stupid Games, Win Stupid Prizes. Big Brother is Watching. 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Just do it yourself with the vehicle parked facing against a wall, it's not difficult.
