Just been outside for a bit and decided I'd pop the kit on i bought earlier this week. Couldn't remove the metal plate, undid the screws but Iit stayed there. So I did the job through the holes in the soundproofing. I fitted the plastic bushes and the spring without tools. The hardest part was removing the old type of spring. 1999 Td5 110 CSW

Finally got round to fitting this... What a pain in the arse!
Reading up on this.... the wee 15 minute job, took about an hour! So here is a piece of advice... Cable Ties! Putting the clips in are nice and easy, fitting the two prongs are simple, BUT compressing the spring to fit into the clutch peddle, couldn't be harder! Compressing the clutch peddle, easy with a few spare blocks of wood from the wood shed. Then trying every single way I could compress the spring while in place to get it to fit into the seat! Eventually, using a wood clamp and two cable ties i managed to compress it enough and put into position.. easy! Although with a compressed spring and 2 ties... I recommend eye protection. Just yesterday I changed the master of my clutch pedal and now is really soft, feels like a "normal" car.
The part I used was a Nissan 30610 U7500, the diameter is 5/8" instead of 3/4", no problem with the distance of travel. Augusto Defender 110 TD5 2001 Discovery 4 TDV6 |

Thought about this after I spent 2 hours doing this mod, which works lovely by the way, why not change the original spring with a lighter one? Save a lot of time and scrapped knuckles :thumb sup 2005 TD5 90 CSW XS

Decided to try this mod as the clutch on my Td5 did feel a bit heavy and it's quite handy if the Mrs doesn't mind driving it.
Anyway, some feedback. Faffed about for over an hour trying to do it without releasing the pedal, to no avail. Problems were access, light, couldn't get any purchase on the spring whatever way I tried it. So decided to take a look at the bits under the bonnet. Six screws holding the cover on, the one behind the servo was a bit hard to get to. Depressed the clutch and wedged with a bit of wood, undid the nut carefully. Once done it didn't look like the clutch pedal moved that much more but I had a go and failed as the screwdriver slipped, second try and it popped straight in, so must have been just enough. Took about 15 mins. Results. The pedal does seem a bit lighter, not given it a test drive yet. Oh, and it now squeaks |

Because the spring in the modification kit is designed to go over centre after the pedal is about half way down, so actually assisting the pedal. Fitting a lighter spring of the original type won’t really make much difference. |

About 30% lighter when measured. Spray some grease on the new spring and pivots. |

Both drove it properly today and the wife thinks it's a great improvement so a worthwhile mod in my case, thanks once again to the forum for the useful information

Good mod and the clutch does feel lighter but a horrible job! Took me over and hour with restricted access (aircon).
I'm going to look at doing the accelerator pedal mod next, see below for instructions on both: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
