Missed this first time around. What an excellent way to make your Defender, and itīs easy to remove bonnet, less attractive to thieves. Thumbs Up
Can someone point me in the direction of the brackets on ebay? 1998 Tdi 90 SW,

Hi All,

Will the aerocatchs hold the bonnet on, or do they merely provide a physical lock?

I have a GRP bonnet, and whoever fitted the bonnet made it squint, so i was intending to delete the centre securing catch and the bonnet latch itself (which is causing the twist) and re-align the bonnet hinges, and relying on the aerocatchs itself.

Any info would be good Smile

Cheers
Andy

That would work - the aerocatches are intended for motor sport to stop the bonnet popping open during racing
So they should hold the bonnet in place without the the centre catch. Having said that I haven't tried it myself

I have them fitted and yes, they would hold the bonnet without the catch. The pins are quite substantial and lock positively. I think they are probably designed for use without the catch in motorsport.

So can I adjust them so that the pull the bonnet down onto itself?

I trying to combat the natural twist in my GRP bonnet......

Fingers crossed Wink

They are adjustable up and down but once the brackets are fitted you need to make sure the bonnet is really where you want it before cutting the holes as there is no lateral adjustment.
I fitted the brackets, installed the pins leaving them sticking up high, put a tiny dot of paint right on the top and gently closed the bonnet. The paint gave me the centre point to drill.

I got the brackets for the pins. Haven't worked up the courage yet to take the drill to the bonnet.
