Added another layer. Aerocatches..
Not keen on the expensive "security hinges" so went another route! Absolutely made up with the results!

Like it, as you say the bonnet won't be as valuable to a thief now with the catches fitted as well so that is a win win situation there. Glad TD5 bonnets aren't in such demand Laughing Good video too.

I had been looking at them online recently, so good to see this video. Thumbs Up
Are the catches metal or plastic? Just wondering how long it would take someone with a big screwdriver or similar tool to lever them open?

Excellent video, thanks for posting.

I have often considered fitting these but never been too sure how they'd fit in relation to the stuff under the bonnet, and where and how best to fit the pins. Your video shows that it is actually much easier than I had anticipated.

Thumbs Up

apt100 They are a hard plastic but the workings are metal. I guess anything is possible with time, break or drill the locks and then jemmy them open, more damage to an already less saleable bonnet, but that is the point, it's the extra time and effort involved that will hopefully move them on to someone elses! Nothing is 100% secure.

Even if they do get the bonnet off, it will not only be harder to sell but also very easy to recognise if listed on any online auction sites. That in itself will be a deterrent to all but the most stupid of thieves.

Awesome job. I've looked at these but never pulled the trigger due to the daunting task of fitting them.

Great idea and superb video, got me thinking now. I have some stainless rope and padlock holding my bonnet but your solution is much much better. 110 Hardtop

thanks for the reply. Please don't see my post as in any way negative. I realise nothing is 100% secure. I was just asking out loud what I had been wondering to myself.

You have obviously got access to a well stocked tool chest and know how to use them Thumbs Up
There might be an opportunity to fabricate a few of those brackets and sell them at a reasonable rate on here?

Again, great video. Thumbs Up

apt100 I didn't at all, sorry if my reply seemed that way, I was just pointing out that people shouldn't think the idea was totally secure.
Funny you should say that, I have had a couple of PM's already regarding the brackets. I will be working out a price when I get to work tomorrow and may even try some in stainless if I get enough interest. Thumbs Up

gilarion Thanks, and yes they come with four keys. Be careful when ordering though because they do a key-less version as well.

I’m always having blonde moments which I can never understand why being a black haired male Wink , though this mornings moment may be due to the copious amounts of real ale quaffed at a wedding reception yesterday, (never again Smile ) will stick to lemonade in future. I have had a few enquiries about supplying the brackets for this mod.
I have made enquiries and if the interest is high enough I can supply two precision laser cut brackets in stainless steel which can be painted if you wish or left as is, for approximately £20 including UK postage. At this price plus the Aerocatches it still makes the job cheaper than a good set of security hinges. However, I need to make a batch to make it worthwhile buying the stainless steel which is rather expensive.
If anyone is interested PM me and if we get enough interest they can be made in a couple of weeks or less.
