Trailer tell-tale light
I have a 2015 90 which is often towing. When I use the indicators with no trailer attached the little trailer tell-tale light on the dash flashes once, which I believe is normal. If I turn the hazards on it flashes constantly. Which I also belive is normal? All good....

However, when a trailer is attached it behaves in exactly the same way. I tow trailers with both LED and standard lamps, both of which have no affect on the tell-tale light.

First time I took to the dealers they said it had no problem, second time they replaced the indicator relay. However nothing has changed.

Is there a solution (the rdx relay perhaps?) That will make both led and standard trailer lights flash? The lamps on the Defender are standard.

I realise it's a minor problem, but it's irritating me that it's not working!

The obvious question: when you're towing do the trailer indicators work?

Forgot to mention that! Yes, the indicators on the trailers are working. The same trailers make the tell tale light on another 2015 defender flash as it should do.

I had a bit of this the other day when I was servicing a trailer for a friend, when I turned the lights on there was a bleed trough to all the lights, every bulb was lit, lights off indicators on and they also made all the other bulbs glow dimly on each flash. but the tell tale wasn't working.
After a set to on the trailer plug, a clean up and open the pins up a bit it all went away and everything worked as normal, including the tell tale on the dash.
I'd suggest that you either change the socket on your motor, as it has the same effect on which ever trailer you tow, or take it apart and give it a good clean. 90% of trailer light problems are due to the socket/plug. Thumbs Up

Thanks all for your replies.

Blackwolf- that other Defender has been changed for a commercial Discovery!

Custom 90 - both. Of the 3 trailers used regularly 1. About 10 years old with incandescent lamps and a 7 pin plug, no signal to the tell tale at all.
2. Has brand new wiring with LED lamps and a 7 pin plug. No signal to the tell tale.
3. A brand new trailer, incandescent lamps, 13 pin plug. Today it was working perfectly turning right, but nothing turning left!

JWL - I think I'll give cleaning the 13 pin socket on the Defender a good clean, and also the 13 to 7 pin adapter I use.
