Looks much better. Did you see the tests BAS did on the KBX and snorkels? James

Cheers chaps I'm going to try and get it bolted on this week but I'm a bit busy trying to help my sister out at the moment doing some work in her garden Ray

I'd heard they had done some tests with snorkels but didn't know they had tested kbx vents too. Did they make a big difference in performance? And do you have a link? Ray My build thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic17615.html |

The effect of the KBX is only slight compared to a RAI, but interesting reading. I copy below the results for interest (I can only find them on FB).
Quote from the BAS Remaps FB page:- "So that is that then.. KBX and snorkels ARE restrictive and cause more vacuum draw on the crank case which is the nearest point to the turbo inlet and without a shadow of doubt can contribute towards oil in the compressor housing of the turbo and a difference in power to a non snorkel car. The KBX is not so bad it seems but does cause more restriction than the OEM wing vent and also causes air turbulence in the intake system which is harder to measure as a problem than the flow and pressures are. In the case of the snorkel and the supposed "Ram Effect" it seems that using a nominal pipe size of 65mm which is the most restrictive part of the air intake system the post separator area @ 1bar pressure and @ 20C temp, flowing 250CFM you would need to be going over 68MPH to get a balance of air speed and forward flow before any gains from Ram Effect start to give you anything extra or contribute towards recovering air flow lost from the fitting of the snorkel in the first place. Increasing the internal pipework size to 80mm reduces the needed road speed to 48MPH and increasing further to 100M reduces it again to 29MPH." Interesting reading, thanks for posting it up hopefully it shouldn't affect mine too much as I've done the airbox mod too so it might cancel out fitting the kbx vent. Ray

I'm sure you're better off. The figures suggest the 'vanes' in the air box are far more restricting than the KBX vent.
When you see the KBX vent next to the OEM vent it's difficult to see how it can be more restricting as it looks to have a bigger free area, but maybe it's more down to the air turbulence? I looked at modifying the airbox and installing a larger diameter inlet hose, but with ABS in the 2.2 it's all very tight for room! I was thinking of putting a larger diameter pipe in at some point as I don't have abs, another thing to add to my growing list of jobs Ray

Haha, exactly! I'm guessing BAS, having done the research, will be coming up with a range of 'free flowing' air intakes, vents, hose and modified box... James

Rubbed the outer bit of the vent back down and re primered because in certain lights you could see a ghost kbx logo I'll try and repaint it this weekend if I get time. I should really be spending my money and time on the other 5 million jobs rather than a poncey painted vent Ray

That is interesting. I have a KBX intake and just last week the engine management light came on and when plugged in by a local garage it was the airflow sensor reading. He turned it off and we checked the ports were clear and he said drive I think for a few days and see if it returns. It did. However interestingly it did so just before my long run to Bordeaux (6hrs motorway driving) and it turned itself off, I assume because it had a clean, regular flow of air for a prolonged period? Maybe the KBX is creating the problem? Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Yeah, I've been looking at them for a while but been putting it off because of the price (lots more priority jobs) but when this came along I snapped it up. The chap had it on for £60 buy it now but I forgot about it before the auction ended then he relisted at 99p start so I bid straight away and only one other person bid against me Ray
