Cant select diff lock or Low

Greenlaining for the first time tis weekend and could not select Low or switch to lock, removed cover and sprayed wd40 everywhere, still no joy. I can select Neutral and assume its constantly in high. Is there a quick and easy way to diagnose the problem? Sorry for not knowing any technical references.

Your linkages are most likely seized die to lack of use, if they are fully clear of mud and dirt inspect them to ensure they are not snapped (does happen a lot) and they are not loose, if all that is good you can try to select low box, have it in first gear and slowly raise the clutch as you keep a steady pressure on the lever, do not try and force it too hard or you may snap the linkage. 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

Thanks will look closer tomorrow. It feels as though the lever is already as far forward as possible but still only in neutral, is it possible that a previous owner has not assembled the linkage properly? The lever is almost touching the gear stick?? Sorry to appear a total idiot by the way!!

Ok, my 1996 90 300tdi isn't the easiest to get into low range. Leaving it in gear I have to take it out of low into 'nothing' then up with the clutch, wait a second or two, down again and then it will go in. I've got a rough idea that isn't text book but it seems to work ok.

are you rolling while trying? i find it much easier to slowly roll forward then slip into low
