Turbo issues
Discovered an oil leak on my 04 TD5. There is coming a little smoke and a burnt oil smell from the turbo after driving.
Also on start up, its like the turbo does not work until i drove 20-30 meters.

Any suggestions where i should start to look? Liks to diy guides etc?

Thanks

Could I be so lucky that its the seal for the return pipe? In that case, how do I change it? Any diy guides availible? Should i bleed it somehow?

Is it the same gaskets for all Gt20 turbos? In that case I could probably order it here in Sweden!

What can you tell this from? And how much will it cost me to repair?

Order: 1x PNT100030 gasket, 1x MHK100620, fit them both and have a beer.

jst: only on the side not all around.

I will order the gasket and change it. How big of a headache is this? I think I can access the bolt pretty easily, but then? Will I be able to move the pipe enough to fit the gasket?
The MAF I will look at the price, and try to clean it.

Then I will take a beer as you suggest!

Very Happy return pipe gasket is pretty easy to do. I wouldn't waste valuable beer drinking time on cleaning the maf. It's dead. Chuck a new one on it Thumbs Up

That could have been a pic of my truck.
Have the same pRoblem . I tested the MAF with a multimeter = dead.
Fitted new MAF last Friday and cleaned the MAP sensor (which was pretty gunked up). MAde a huge difference, less smoke, smoother, feels much more solid. Got the same oil prob on the turbomreturn pipe (as well as the rocker breather at both ends) took the intercooler out today (which was a complete b**** to get out as my truck has aircon and the previous mechanic has hidden all the jubilee and banjo clip releases underneath the hoses) but dry as a bone and clean so didn't bother to flush but fitted silicone hoses whilst out.
I've got a gasket kit from paddocks to do the oil return and other turbo gaskets so that's next weekend and have a look at the turbo condition as the same time - so I'm hoping that'll do it Whistle Disco 300TDi XS - Gone

At least changing your gasket looks a little easier than it was on mine. Waste oil in the same place as your photo so ordered the seal, I got two just in case plus the motor factors were having a little difficulty getting one from their supplier Bearmach (genuine LR ones came in the end in pretty LR bags)
I've got a few things in the way, Eberspacher fuel tank and winch solonoid amongst others, so an open view wasn't possible and work had to be done by feel. I spent ages digging out all my Allen keys, Torx sockets as all I could feel was what felt like a fixing head with a hole in it. 20 minutes later, trying to take photos as I hadn't got a mirror it turned out that the bolt had fallen out on that side! I still had to take it all off as I needed the other bolt as a pattern to get a replacement Whistle

The return pipe gasket is a bit fiddly but it is very cheap so why not.
It would not affect performance though, it just oozes oil onto the engine, looking at the picture seems to be oil higher than the gasket, but maybe this is blown there by the cooling fan, the heat shield ducts the air over the turbo. Ray
