United Kingdom 2013 Defender 130 Puma 2.2 SW Rimini Red
TD5
Problem
The exhaust manifold mating flange expands and sheers the M8 studs
Fix
Thicker M10 bolts are required with 'special' washers between the manifold and nuts.

TDCi
Problem
The exhaust manifold expands in length by about 20mm and the triangular exhaust to turbo flange warps.
Fix
New Manifold (that will do the same) 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Are you sure? I tried that on my V reg Disco TD5 and it ended up bending in at 1 and 5, so out at 3, normally the manifold would go out at 1 and 5 so in at 3 (does that make sense) perhaps take 1/2 the web out? 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

Could mine be warped? I only have 500 miles on the truck. I mean it isn't all the time just in certain gears when I step on the gas. Been like that since I got it I think. Having a turbo diesel is new to me but people have asked what the sound was.

Anyone have a picture of where the black soot would be?

well lanbrover have refused to repair my truck
on the basis it possibly has a remap (but they havnt poved it has)
it has a raised air intake ? and said even with out the other 2 things this would void the warranty alone

and 3rd a non standard exhaust altho it still has the cat on it ?(atm)

this has really p***ed me off

ill repair my self i spose but would have been nice to be given proper evidence as a pose to be ing told out mechaninc THINKS its remapped ?

If you have this manifold issue I would assume you would hear it whistle even when you dont drive? I would think being in neutral and stepping on gas you would hear it?

Big Steve

My DC has a non Land Rover raised air intake and the dealer has no issue with it. When the vehicle goes in for engine work/service they ask if it has been mapped/chipped in case they destroy the map. They are always interested in any mods and how much/where from.

Maybe me setting the MD of Land Rover on them 18 months ago had some effect, if it did, it worked as they are considerate and helpful and now have a genuine interest in Defenders and there owners.

Have you appoached another dealer to see what they say ?

Bob

I had my warranty voided by LR due to the RAI and the fact that it had a de-cat on it. She also had BAS stickers all over it and they tried to say it was mapped but I stuck to my guns and they could not prove it so they removed the warranty as said it was for the RAI and de-cat.

Anyway, after many emails, dealer visits and my writing to LR head office a guy called Steve Cafearo called me and said he was going to get a technical guy to cal me.

A chap called me and asked why I had an RAI on and also why I had removed the cat. After explaining I had done the RAI as I was using the Defender as she was supposed to be used and wanting to protect the engine from water intake he said he was happy with that being on.

We then discussed the de-cat pipe and I explained I removed it and the ctr box as I was bashing the he'll out of it. He asked if I had done it for performance gains and I replied no.

After some more discussion he agreed with me and re-installed the warranty.

My advice is to keep on going at them and they will cover the vehicle as the bad publicity is not good for them. LR. Customer services won't be able to help, you need to go higher and go around the dealer as they are worse than useless.

It will take a while but keep on at them and write to LR head office and the MD - you can find his name out from the LR website.

They tried to prove my Defender had been re-mapped but try as they may they could not Wink

Good luck and keep the faith - they will give in if you push hard enough. Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free
