I have started this conversion - have a Disco 2 TD5 unit with Disco 2 gearbox. We are going to position the gearbox in the chassis. This means we may end up with custom propshafts but either way the limited cab space in the PUMA means that the gear level is in the correct place in the PUMA tunnel area. Using the short stick Disco 2 set up.

From this, the engine will have new mounts made and end up in a new position.

Wiring is a bit more complex - I have a stripped back Defender loom that will run the engine and then the original PUMA loom that will run everything else. The PUMA dials and instrument pack will go and in its place a new instrument pack with Defender TD5 gauges.

Pictures once we get things in the right place.

At MOT time you would also need to have the same emissions as a Puma.No different to me fitting a N/A diesel engine in my TD5.It would have to meet the same emission standards as a TD5.

There is no requirement for an engine to meet later standards, the emissions requirement is based on the age of the engine, or the vehicle, whichever is oldest. You will need to prove the age of the engine though when you take it for a test. That's not usually a problem though, especially if you've changed the engine number etc... on the log book beforehand. Just take a suitable reference book although any LR literate MOT tester will know the age anyway from the engine type (10P, 15P etc...)

I've been through this a few times in different permutations and never had an issue at MOT time as long as all the paperwork is up to date.

Seeing your location as Wales, and that the vehicle is a red 130 tipper, does it belong to Lampeter tree surgery by any chance? Looking forward to seeing how you get on with getting it running
