Hay is good down here, a lot already done I think.

However, good news for you guys up north on the weather forecast today they said we're getting some warm weather coming again shortly.
Sounded like it was nationwide to so things are looking quite good.

Thumbs Up

A nice break in the weather has enabled us to get on with the combining and we are into the wheat. One of the varieties that we grow is Spelt, a very old wheat which has been cultivated for thousands of years. We grow it for speciality bakers and artisan bread makers.

Another variety that we grow is called Maris Widgeon, which is also sold to a local artisan flour mill to use for speciality bread making. Maris Widgeon was also used as a thatching straw, and has a lot of straw, which helps to choke out the weeds, as organic farmers this is a great help as we cannot use any pesticides.

Our next crop to cut after the wheat will be the malting barley (for use in brewing beer),another old variety called plumage archer, which was bred by Warminster Maltings more than 100 years ago, and it makes very good beer!!

Cheers Nick

Captain Speaking, hello from Aussie.
Great pics mate. How many acres do you farm, what do you do on it, and has your family been there for a while?
Pickles.

What-ho Pickles!

200 acres of our own beef and some potatoes and beans - but these pics were taken whilst contracting for a neighbour. Middle of nowhere (although perhaps not by Oz standards Rolling with laughter )

Didn't manage to get it all finished before rain came back so fingers crossed we get a few dry days next week.

Greeni I spotted the local farmers out with their combines the other week and had exaclty the same thought! Having seen the pricing on some of the bits of kit though I suspect they'd decline my more than generous offer Rolling Eyes 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone
2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone
2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW

Last year a mate was wrapping bales, so I went at 11pm and did a couple of hours. Loved it!

But yeah, a guy at his yard has a massive new fendt, I'd rock that as my 'daily'!!!

You'd buy 3 or 4 Defenders new more or less to match the value of those. Laughing

A bit of a cheat, but I'm not a farmer. The field of beans and a combine harvester at work this morning, destination for the beans is Egypt.

Our main harvest started with a *BANG* on Tuesday, con rod through the block after doing a minimal amount of the first field of maize :/

It did have a 12l straight 6 doing about 500hp. It's now got a bent 5...
